The pictures of this church say it all. Be sure to be in the square at least once at the top of the hour to hear the bugler from the window in the high tower.

“Very Beautiful Basilica”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

right on the Market Square in Krakow, is worth a visit just to see the exceptional wooden altarpiece. The whole interior is breathtaking....the ornate interior and the magnificent stained glass window are a joy!

“Another Polish Gem.”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

Having spent the last few months visiting mainly French churches, I must say that my initial gut response to this church was one of jarring difference. It really is incredibly dissimilar from any church I had yet seen (and my first one in Poland).

At first glance, one might be inclined to shake off the style as ostentatious or a tad gaudy, but such fails to consider a number of different things, not the least of which is that this is just how churches have been designed in Poland for centuries. This particular example, first built in the 13th century, is a testament not only to Catholic tradition in the country but a continuing strong faith still to day. It is beautiful in its own way, both with its use of color and statuary decoration throughout.

A visit to Krakow would not be complete without a stop at the church, especially as it stands dominating the north-eastern corner of the square. And like other buildings throughout Krakow, it looks spectacular come nighttime when it is lit up.

The biggest difference between this church and many throughout France however isn't the style, it is that this church doesn't seem to merely bit a tourist stop, there are many worshipers here at all points in the day.

“Incredible Wood Carvings”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

St. Mary's is on the main square of Krakow Old Town. The most memorable aspect is the incredible wood carving on the altar and choir benches. The front entrance is reserved for worshippers. Tourist who want to see the choir and altar up close must buy a ticket at the office across from the right side of the Basilica. A photography permit is extra. Worth a visit.

“Beautiful church”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

Superb church, full of amazing art work. I paid the ticket to go in as a tourist, but many were going in the door for those who wanted to pray. This might be a free route in, but you cannot get as close to the alter this way, and these tourists were trudging around photographing while people were trying to pray, very disrespectful.
