We dropped in whilst having a guided walking tour round Krakow. Very interesting old buildings particularly around the courtyard. I maybe sad but the gargoyles on the ends of the rainwater spouts were novel. Popular place for tourist so busy when we visited.

All the long-established Jagiellonium University departments just west of Rynek Glowny are focused round courtyards, as are Oxford & Cambridge; this Collegium Maius is the Daddy of them all in Krakow, and an interesting visit is available to the main hall and through a sequence of set pieces about their teaching and famous teachers in the past 500 years.

Main building of the old university is just a part of huge complex in the middle of Krakow. It is similar but not the same as some other old universities in Europe. Place is one of the must see spots in the city. It is better to walk there alone and explore the place on your own. Inner yard needs no explanations other details are described in written guides or in information boards. Climb from the ground floor to the upper balcony with good view down to the paved ground and well. Explore the vaults and painted parts of the complex.

Figuring out the tour times may be a bit of a challenge, since tours are in different languages, but the tour is well worth it. We chose the shorter tour, in English which was fine. Our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The university itself is steeped in history and very fascinating. Be sure to note the wall with the professors who were executed during the Nazi occupation..

Poland's oldest university with many landmark buildings and international partnerships. The students have a courtyard where they’re able to eat meals, study, and socialize. Have been here multiple times and the students are friendly and share their knowledge of the history. This is a must see! Don't pass on this!

Just visited exterior, to courtyard and surroundings. Elegance of columns and balcony added to ancient buildings. If you have any link with geography at all, do read the information boards outside, detailing how this subject was one of those targeted by the Nazis as dangerous in an occupied country, and they sent many geographers to the death camps. Academics continued their work where they could, in secret. More heroes in an heroic land.

Sometimes referred to as "Copernicus College", after the astronomer who published a book in 1543 that caused a major shift in worldview from the earth being the center of the universe, to suggesting that the planets rotated about the sun. It's not too far from the center of old town to walk. See the courtyard and statue of Copernicus in the garden outside.

we went here twice on two different free 'walkative' tours, and saw different aspects on each occasion
we were told something of its history, and it is worth doing a little research before you go so that you also have some idea of its past
Th university clock has moving figures. We saw it at 1100. fragments of court music play as the various figures emerge. Each is identifiable, original mechanism from 1465 but renovated several time, last in 2000
university gardens are a pleasant shady place to take a few minutes
It is a really old university, Copernicus was here as was Pope John Paul amongst some of its famous students

We went for the polish tour (cirka 30 minutes) showing us thr exhibition parts of the university museum as well as Kopernicus related topics. It was interesting and our tour guide did a great job , but we had hoped to see a bit more and the library was undergoing renovations. The tour ended with the 3 o'clock glockspiel.
