We opted for a suite which was a good size with separate lounge. The hotel was obviously once very grand and hadn't really been touched since. It was tired in places but it was full of character. The room we had connected to another and the walls were quite thin so I would check that when booking. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Unfortunately the bar wasn't open but it looked like it would have been an enjoyable place to have a drink or two.

Well positioned a few minutes walk from the main square and the train station, this hotel is a great base for a city break. It is an old fashioned hotel with a glorious centre staircase, lots of dark wood plenty of space and (if our experience is anything to go by) huge rooms. We had a bedroom with separate lounge area, hall and bathroom. Big with high ceilings. There was a booking mix up apparently when we arrived so whether we were upgraded I am not sure but it was a tremendous room. Staff were very friendly, helpful and easy going. There is a restaurant attached that does an exceptional value fixed price lunch menu of Polish food served at your table from a trolley. We tried an evening meal but did not find it quite up to the lunch standard. Breakfast was included and was traditional with warm Polish sausage, cold buffet and salads etc which was perfectly adequate and you could order cooked eggs etc if so desired. A hotel full of character and style, warm and welcoming. Would recommend it to anyone who wants away from the chain experience and is looking for traditional charm.

Recently stayed three nights on holiday. The location is great just 2-3 blocks on the main square near the Barbican gate. Easy 10 minute walk to the old city sites. Hotel is very functional and staff is attentive and friendly. One issue was the free wifi availability in the rooms. While ours worked fine, many guests were in the lobby or main stair case area as they could not get a signal in their rooms. The included breakfast was average by European standards. The decor of the hotel, while once elegant and one of the best, is becoming a bit dated and run down. The main reception area and dining rooms have plaster walls that have been stripped of paint and wall paper, leaving a gray colored, slightly patchy plaster. Some might call it shabby chic :-) I asked if this might be temporary, another guest who has stayed many times over the past few years says it has been that way for at least 2-3 years. The rooms were good sized, the furniture very dated, but functional. The bathroom was large with a full bath tub and shower.

Tip: I would recommend inquiring about a room towards the back of the hotel as the street noise was very loud (up to 5:00 am with late night revelers with street cleaning beginning shortly thereafter at 6:00am).

All in all a very good place to stay, but don't expect 3 star elegance (from long ago 5 star property).

Room Tip: Ask for a room towards the back of the hotel. Not giving up much of a view and you will avoid the s...

Could not fault the Hotel Location and staff
A beautiful Hotel Very Clean may be a little tired on decor but beautiful all the same
Breakfast was good and We ate Lunch one day that was excellent value for money
We would stay in the same hotel if we went back to Krakow without hesitation
We had great service from house keeping no problems with water etc maybe they have read the review and made sure they do something about any feed back as we had no problems at all

Room Tip: Both rooms our party had were very big with a lounge area and huge bathroom

The location of this hotel, minutes from the main Market Square, is the best thing that can be said about it. Although it was obviously once a very grand building it is now in need of a complete overhaul. The attempt at "shabby chic" has only produced shabby without the chic! Our bedroom, although quite spacious, was full of various old bits of furniture and it looked and smelled like an old second-hand furniture shop! However, the bed was comfortable and the bedding clean although we were woken every night in the early hours by street noise. Housekeeping was poor and the container for tissues in the bathroom remained empty throughout our stay. Also, the towels were very thin, grey and shabby. Breakfast was just about passable, mainly because of the hot dishes which you could ask for. Certainly doesn't merit it's 4* rating but OK for a short break.

We visited this hotel in August and found it in an ideal location and very central. Although the hotel has a marvellous staircase the plumbing left a lot to be desired. The water from the sink in our bathroom was no more than a trickle and the shower was very slow. There was a lot of noise in the early hours of the morning and as there was no air con it was far too hot to shut the window, although the fan did give us some relief. The staff in general are friendly and helpful and the breakfasts are adequate. All in all we would recommend this hotel for a short break and a chance to experience Krakow.

Whole French Hotel is filled with old elegance what is already evident upon entering the lobby and impressive staircase with columns. It is the oldest building in Krakow erected immediately as a hotel - was opened in 1912. Interior is influenced by the popular at that time an art deco style. The rooms and suites are decorated with wallpapers, pictures, and graphics showing former Krakow, as well as solid, stylized furniture. The bathrooms are comfortably furnished and spotlessly clean. Some suites may be combined, by which the hotel is recognised among traveling families. Listening to a clock beating in the lobby or sipping tea in a cafe, you can travel in imagination hundred years to the past.
