Entrance is at the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall). Below the market square is a whole myriad of space devoted to showcasing the history of Krakow's main square .This museum opened in 2010 after about 5 years of excavations. You can see the old streets and trades dating from 13th century. The exhibits are explained using touch screen technology in varied languages. Well worth a visit.

Excellent museum with some very innovative displays. Suitable for all ages. Buy tickets in advance as there are timed entrances.

The only down side to this museum is the ticket purchasing. Be aware that you buy your tickets from the other side of the Cloth Hall from the entrance to the museum. After that though the whole experience underneath the market square is brilliant. Once you get used to the lay out and direction there are informative guides for you to read in a selection of languages. Don't miss the model of medieval Krakow underneath the market square fountain - from above you would not know it was there. For us the highlight came at the end when we looked at the pictures of the excavation and everything that had been done to create the museum. Reminiscent of Yorvik in York but better value and bigger. Don't miss the subtitled films telling Krakow's history and allow at least 2 hours

I have no idea what the poor reviews are about. This is one of the best thought out and laid out museums we have been to in any city. Perfect for a wet day as it takes a good 2 hours undercover to see it all. We were recommended to go by our receptionist or we might have missed it as there are no signs outside. Excellent value with an entry fee at around £4 per person, buy the tickets on one side of the Cloth Hall and enter the other side. Essentially archaeological history but with lots of fascinating artefacts that were dug up during the excavations and some very good reconstructions. Teenage boy loved the anti-vampire burials but that may turn other people off!
Also don't miss the film, towards the end which is a moving panorama of Krakow's history- we went on the first day and it was a really good basis for the rest of our trip. Highly recommended
