Do not miss this wonderful underground museum which relates the history of Krakow and the market square from its earliest days. A delightful overview of the changes found on a recent renovation of the market square and the history it revealed from hundreds of years ago. Do not miss the panoramic slide show included in your ticket price. (19PLN - a bit higher than the Rick Steves book quotes)

There was little to advertise this underground museum as there are no signs outside and we just happened to see the glass door with all the opening times as we walked past. We didn't have a copy of the map guide available at the Tourist Information Centre so would never have known it was there! It's well worth a visit, especially if you are caught in heavy rain and want something to do under cover! It's excellent value with an entry fee at around £4 per person. There are some fantastic artefacts and a very interesting archaeological history too, with a journey through time, showing medieval Krakow 4m below the surface of the Market Square.

The place is interesting and in a hot summer day you can easily go there; the exhibits is well organized but not very interesting. It gets boring and repetitive really fast. Also, the place is small, the visit should take around 1-2 hours;

The first thing to say, is what others have said... The ticketing arrangement is a bit odd. You have to buy a ticket on one side of the Cloth Hall and then go round to the museum entrance on the other side of the Cloth Hall. I would also agree with others, that it isn't well advertised at all. We had seen the reviews on TripAdvisor, but it was only when our walking tour guide pointed it out that we gave it some thought.

Inside, the museum is full of what should be very clever screens, although some are not so clever because the touch screen element doesn't work well. The first space you come to is a dark, fairly open area which in my opinion was a bit disjointed, although there was a numbered 'trail' of boards to follow, there didn't seem to be any pattern to these. Normally you'd expect the museum to be laid out in some form of order, like a timeline for example.

However, do persist though as it gets better! The museum trail eventually leads into a corridor that goes through the excavations and is cleverly set out with a different vendor in each shop. Each shop has a display of artefacts and a touch screen with much more detail available. Eventually the museum leads on to a section about the excavations themselves which was fascinating, particularly given the prime location they are in.

Finally there is a small area where short films are played, each focusing on a different period of history.

So generally, my advice would be, don't be disheartened if you don't like (or understand!) the first part of the museum...it does get better!

Well organized exhibits, excellent displays! You'll need at least 2 hours to see everything, so plan ahead. Well worth the visit, no doubts. Don't leave Krakow without visiting this museum.
