Kraków has always been a wondeful city to visit. From my first trips in the rather dingy People's Republic of Poland year to today the transformation has been dramatic. It is a city definately on the tourist trail as all the low cost airliners at Balice airport atest to.
The Wawel Castle, the Main Square and the wonderfully busy streets are great to look at - but there is a place where you can time travel in Kraków and it is right underground in the main square, the Rynek.
Opened just a couple of years ago, the Rynek Underground is a great way to see how the city used to be with a very creative multimedia experience combinging state of the art technology with real skeletons. The kids will like it - as will the adults. In addition, there is actually a good cafe down there with some very good, thick hot chocolate for cold winter days. If you are there in the summer, it is nice and cool. Go early in the day if you can to avoid summer crowds.
If you or the kids aren't keen on a musty museum, don't worry. You will enjoy this. Our kids have been several times and on each trip to Krakow are always checking if we have time to go again.
