“Apartment heaven - will be back”
Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

I stayed in apartment a and it was lovely. Really stylish decoration and the owners have thought hard about people's needs in the facilities, so there is everything from wifi, filtered water, tea/ coffee to great toiletries. The location is great, just a few mins walk to main square, 5 mins to cathedral and 15 mins to train station (with link to airport).

Right from booking owners were great offering airport pickups (which we didn't take as cheaper to get train for just few people - but still offered better value than local tour operators). Then when we arrived they gave us great restaurant recommendations.

The only very negative minor was ground floor location meant some sound from delivery lorries at next door shop, which didn't bother me, but might a light sleeper.

I'm almost hesitant to write a good review because I know I'll want to be back here and don't want it to be booked up - but it deserves the credit

Very pleased with everything in the apartment, very clean and very well laid out. Ewa, one of the owners, met us on arrival and was very friendly and helpful, showed us around, and gave us some places to visit. Our one and only criticism is the same as most other peoples, that whilst you have the convenience of a small supermarket next door, the delivery entrance is by the apartments, and was sometimes quite noisy, but it really was not a major problem. If this was not the case, it would have been a definite 5* !

It's position is ideal, only a 3 minute stroll to the main square, the buses and trams stop right outside, so we were so glad we did not hire a car. Local taxi driver "Zibi" was on hand at very reasonable rates and very reliable and punctual.

Overall, we would whole heartedly recommend this place, and if we were to return, would definitely re-book.

My fiance and I traveled to Krakow with my parents for seven days in Sept 2012, and Red Kurka's Apartment B was our home. The high rating this property very much deserves is due to a combination of things. First, the location. You really can't be situated in a better spot. It is immediately outside the old town (literally a two minute walk to the square), a 10 minute walk to the castle door, and about 15-20 minutes to get to the Jewish Quarter. Our longest hike was to Schindler's Factory, and even that only took about 30 minutes. It was so great to be in a city that we could navigate on foot, without the hassle of getting on a tram or subway and not knowing exactly where to get on/off, etc. Also, because the apartment is outside the old town and has a driveway, the buses that picked us up for our day trips were able to literally come to our doorstep. This is a bonus, especially for very young or elderly travelers. Also, there is a grocery store right next door, which allows you to stock up on a few items and make use of the kitchen (note: the store's loading dock opens around 7am, but the noise is minimal and didn't bother us at all).

Second, the apartment itself. Apartment B is exactly as it appears in the website photos. It isn't luxurious, but it's funky, clean, comfortable, spacious enough for 4 adults, and very well-equipped (e.g. the kitchen has an abundance of appliances, utensils, dishes, etc.; the bathroom has an entire bowl full of shampoo and soaps). Also worth mentioning is that the water pressure is great, and we all plenty of hot water even when taking 4 showers in a row. The only thing that could be improved is storage. While there is a large hall closet for hanging items and the smaller bedroom has a dresser and night stands with plenty of drawers, the master bedroom only has a shelving unit. Ideally, there would be drawers in the master + a couple luggage stands, and possibly hooks in the hallway outside the bathroom. But this is only a minor suggestion - it certainly didn't make our stay any less pleasant.

And last but definitely not least, the property managers. Prior to our visit, Karl was so prompt and helpful when responding to our emails and helping us plan our stay. Then, Ewa greeted us warmly in the driveway upon our arrival, gave us a tour of the unit, made sure we were comfortable and left us with a very detailed print-out of suggestions for fantastic places to eat. This was so helpful; as was the fact that we could simply pop into Ewa's antique shop right next door if we ever needed anything throughout the week. We booked our excursions to Auschwitz and the Salt Mine this way, and Ewa was even kind enough to source laundry detergent for sensitive skin (as one of our group has allergies)!

The Red Kurka made Krakow an easier, more enjoyable and entirely pleasant experience - and in my opinion, that's the perfect accommodation choice when traveling to a foreign country. Thank you Ewa and Karl - we'll never forget our week at Red Kurka!! xo

It isn't just the apartment, but the total Red Kurka experience that makes this place so special. Book it now - you won't regret it!

This is a very nice apartment in krakow. Me and my friend lived here for 3 night. The apartment is located very closed to old town. It's short distance to any tourist spot. Only 10 mins walk to old town. A lot of nice restaurant near the apartment, which you can ask the owner. She is very sweet and helpful for everything:) we have 3 rooms. All clean and cozy. There is also a washing machine in the apartment. That's good If you are going to stay here for long time. The toilet and bathroom are separated. So you don't need to line up for the rooms when you wake up. It feels like home. Especially the prints on the wall, I love them every much! If you are going to stay in krakow. Here is you best choice!

We stayed in Apartment A for 5 nights. The apartment was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Ewa the host was ever helpful, she was there to great us when we arrived at about 8pm on a Sunday night and explained everything - even how to get english language versions of some of the shows on the cable tv. Ewa went out of her way finding the right trams for us to get to various places when our feet were too sore from walking. She also provides a fantastic list of restaurants and cafes for you.

Wi Fi in the apartment was excellent - we were able to Skype with our family in Australia every day.

The kitchen was more than enough for our needs as there were so many choices of restaurant within easy walking distance.

Location is excellent with tram stops outside the door which give easy access to lots of town including Kazimeires (which is still walking distance from the apartment). The Old Town square is only minutes walk away and the Wawel is at the end of the street - about 10 minutes easy walk.

As others have said, the apartment is located next to a supermarket and the driveway is used by it for loading and unloading deliveries as well as moving stock around etc. That makes things a bit noisy ahead of the supermarket's 6.30am opening time.

For us, the big thing missing from the apartment is a safe for passports etc. Although the door has 2 really good locks and the windows all have bars on them it is that constant worry for the valuables without a safe to lock them away in.

We would definitely stay at the Red Kurka again and recommend it to our travelling friends.

This is a great walk up apartment/hotel where my husband and I stayed for three nights while exploring Krakow. The apartment is walking distance to the main square, river, Wawel castle, Jewish quarter, and most tourist spots, but staying here you will feel a bit more like a local than tourist. The apartments are off a semi private courtyard, where you will find an antique store owned by Karl and Ewa (the proprietors of the Red Kurka) and an Italian restaurant (with a great porch to enjoy a bottle at the end of the day).

The apartment we stayed in was immaculately clean, plenty of space to spread out, tastefully furnished with a touch of whimsy in the wall decals, and with amenities to suit the road weary traveler including a kitchen and washing machine. What more could you ask for? Oh yes, when my husband left his sunglasses in the antique store when checking out, Karl and Ewa were kind enough to ship them back for us to New York.

Downsides, if any - the parking is a block away in another hotel's gated parking, which is more convenient/safe than fighting for a street spot, but a bit expensive. The courtyard is also a driveway for the back of a grocery store. So if you keep your windows open at night & you're a light sleeper, you might hear some people or vans in the morning.

We would definitely stay here next time when we are Krakow.

We stayed in apartment A for 8 nights. If I were to name the most important advantages of this apartment it would be: service and location. We were travelling with a 6 months old baby. Ewa (the hostess) arranged especially for us a crib, which was waiting for us in the bedroom upon our arrival. Ewa was very friendly and helpful...you really cannot ask for a better hostess.

The apartment was very baby friendly. It is located on the ground floor (easy with the pram), there is a bath and a very well equipped kitchen. The apartment is very quiet.

The location is just perfect. It is located a 3 minutes walk from the main square next to a small winery/restaurant.. perfect if you are with a baby/children ...you are back to the apartment in no time. A grocery store and a drugstore are also located very nearby.

In general we had a very nice stay in RedKurka. The only point of critique we had was an outdated bathroom and couple of things that would need a bit of refurbishing (for example the wardrobe in the hall, tiles on the floor).

We would definately recommend this appartment to people travelling with babies/children.
