“Excellent hotel”
Reviewed June 13, 2012

Three of us stayed in this hotel for 5 nights at the begining of June in a triple room. The room was a very good size and everything was in very good condition and spotless. Even the bathroom was free of any mould on the grouting etc. All staff very helpful and friendly. Hotel was 5-10 min walk to main square max and tram stop near hotel. If travelling with large cases it is a little way from the station to walk (20-30min) but taxi's are cheap enough, although we did use an airport taxi booked ahead, about £16 each way. Went on a tour to auschwitz organised by the hotel for me although slightly dearer than making my own way was much better as avoided the busy queues at this time of year and not such a long day. Although it was a fast paced tour due to 5-7000 visitors a day still worth having the guided tour. don't try to do the combined salt mine and auschwitz tour on the same day as there is a lot of walking. Couldn't fault this hotel excellent in service and value, can't understand what others see wrong with this hotel. Loved Krakow and managed to see all that I wanted while there so will probably not go back but wouldn't hesitate to stay here if I did.

Room Tip: Don't expect to find anyaccomodation totally free of noise from either bars, shops or trams after...

Positive:
I came to Krakow to see the city, alone, and satyed here for 2 nights.Very helpful and smiling receptionist, available 24h.Excellent breakfast. Good chef at the restaurant. Really good speed on Wi-Fi. Tea/cofee, kettle and a bottle of mineral water in your room. Possible to have very warm water while taking the shower. You can leave your luggage at the receprion early in the morning and than check-in at 2 pm. A guy from the reception helped me to carry my luggage - good service!

Negative:
Well... It's been a lot of things which made me dissappointed about this hotel. It's mostly because of my room. It does need some renovation. Dirty walls, cracks in the corners, dust on the shelves, some weird and unusable hook for the shower head, broken/wrongly installed toilet seat, no lock (just a hole) in the bathroom door, poor cleaning (room is only pretending to be cleaned - changed bed linen, refilled cups with cofee) but dusty carpet, wrong hanging curtains, dirty table. The electric kettle is there, but kinda oldfashioned and quite calcified.Even the pen on the table with the hotels logo - badly broken, and still laying there. What for? First night I used some shower gel from the bathroom, next morning I've found a refill: 2 more shampoos (instead of shower gel) standing near another shampoo I haven't used. Where is the logic? The hotel is aroun 10-15 min walk from the old city, but to get to the railway station you need to cross the whole old city to find it on the oppsite side. I think it's quite uncomfortable, coz it takes around 30 min to walk with heavy luggage from the railway to the hotel.

Room Tip: Don't take the room #23.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comment on Trip Advisor. I am glad that you were our Guest and that you even extended your stay. Sorry for the impression of oldfashioned style of our design. Hotel is situated in the historical building and its decoration cannot be too modern thus to keep its character. I will share your impression with our general manager.
Moreover I would like to note that on our website there is information that hotel is situated 1,5 km from railway station and we offer pick up and we advise other transfer possibilities.

Hoping to welcome you at the Maksymilian Hotel again I am sending you my best regards,
Maria Zatoń

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for a aweek in March 2012. Although it was very cold outside the hotel and bedroom were confortably warm. The room was clean and the bathroom had a brilliant hot power shower. Breakfast was continental but there was loads of choice and plenty of it. The situation is brilliantly situated for getting around town,. The central square is only a 10 mimute walk away, and most of the main sites are only another ten minute walk away, eg the beautiful castle and cathedral and the railway station with the huge shopping centre attached.

Meals out are very reasonable. You have to try MamaMias only a five minite walk from the hotel. Their pizzas and pasta are fantastic and so cheap - but please book if going at a weekend as it is full with locals!! That shows how good it is.

The hotel reception staff couldnot do enough. We booked our trips to Austwitz and the salt mines through the hotel and they were no dearer than the tour operators in the city and the mini bus picks up from a hotel just around the corner. They are both recommended tours for different reasons but well worth going to. The hotel organised a taxi back to the airport for us which again was about £16.00.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the weather was freezing but the skies were clear blue - the city was beautiful and we felt very safe - the cost of living is cheap - and the hotel could not be faulted.

We reviewed this hotel on 19th October 2011 as excellent and on our return visit we found it to be the same if not better. Do not want to repeat ourselves so please see that review. This time we stayed for fourteen nights. The breakfast room has been changed due to various previous reviews moaning about the layout. If every guest turns up at the same time there will be a queue but as it is open from 7AM to 10.30AM there is plenty of time to get something to eat. There is plenty of choice to suit all tastes so we cannot understand previous reviewers stating that the breakfast is lousy. In many of the hotel's in Krakow you have to pay extra for breakfast. Our room, 33 which we also had last time, now has a 2 seater very comfortable couch in it. The summer garden was open which we enjoyed relaxing in after our days out around the Old Town and Castle Area. The bar and restaurant which was run as a separate enterprise in October is now run by the hotel and guests are offered 20% off their drinks and food. The prices are cheaper than many of the pubs and restaurants in town so you save even before your 20% off!! We ate in the restaurant on a few occasions and the food was excellent. Cannot understand some of the reviews saying that the staff are unhelpful, we must have met all the reception staff due to our long stay and they are all very helpful and friendly. The cleaners and the handyman are also very friendly and polite. We cannot thank all the staff enough for their hospitality and we will definately return to the hotel again when we next visit Krakow. Thank you all.

Room Tip: All rooms face the quiet courtyard, we had room 33 on both visits and it is a lovely big room.

as the title says the hotel was brilliant. room very clean and modern. 5 minute walk fron main square and another 10 mins to wawel hill. breakfast was what would expect on the continent, plenty of ham, cheese and bread along with an amzing mixture of bacon with eggs. the in house health centre was excellent value for money, my wife took advantage of the relaxing massages while i enjoyed the great priced bar! hotel arranged trips but is worth a little time maybe seeing what the tourist centres can do due to the fact the company the hotel uses is a little crowded on the large coaches they use. will definitely go back to krakow and will be booking at this great hotel once again.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 43 which was almost like a suite

We stayed here for four days, and, to be honest, we didn't expect much. But man, were we ever pleasently surprised!!
This hotel is just great; quiet, modern, eventhough it is located in one of the oldest buildings in the town, and really crisp and clean!! And i mean very clean, sparkless!!
The location is great, just a 5 minute walk, the staff is very friendly, breakfast is very good, frankley, i can't find anything negative about this hotel!!
Definitely, definitely recommended!!!

We stayed here for a long weekend after reading reviews on Tripadvisor and we were very happy with our choice. Three of us shared the room, with three single beds and unlike most places with this kind of accommodation found the room to be very spacious and clean. There was an ample hot buffet breakfast which although not 'English' set us up for the day ahead.
The hotel itself is located in a small courtyard just off the main road and a leisurely 10 minute walk from the beautiful Main Square where most of the bars/restaurants are located.
Our party of 9 really enjoyed our time and Krakow and immediately decided we would come back to this hotel later in the year with the addition of other friends who wished they had come with us after hearing of our experiences here and how cheap it was.
Thanks to the friendly staff too.
