we stayed here for 3 nights, twin room with own bath room, very clean, staff very help full, breakfast was bread pate eggs cereal cheese yogurts, you just help yourself. there were tea and coffee all day if you wanted it , for free. a large fridge and cooker if you wanted to cook for yourself. I will stay here again . only a 15 min walk to square, or you could catch a tram or bus out side hotel. not really worth it as its only 2 stops anyway. visited Auschwitz and salt mines ,booked in hostel ,mini bus picks you up at your hotel, they are only 7 seaters.drivers very nice, but lots and lots of walking with both trips. salt mines have 700 steps so not for faint hearted. there is a lift to take you back up thank goodness. we had a very good time.

Visited October 2013.
Hostel is located at very top of the building so lots of stairs to climb (lift was out of service).
Room-Pleased with cleanliness. Bathroom was spotless.
Free towels were provided at reception- but take your own towel if possible. Although towels looked like they had been washed. Stains looked suspiciously like blood.
Free WiFi which was great.
There is also a museum and cells in the basement which is worth visiting (free entry to those staying at hostel). Building has a disturbing past.

Three lads on a three nighter in Krakow.
Great cheap hostel, clean bed linen and rooms, all en-suite shower rooms, heating was on full so no worries about getting cold. Looks a little tired from the outside and on the inside, but nothing a lick of paint wouldn't sort out.
Breakfast - well for a tenner a night what do you expect. Boiled eggs, bread jams, cereals coffee. just enough for a starter.
Staff were helpful, and managed to get us on a trip to Auschwitz the night before we went.
Location to town was great, a ten - fifteen minute walk took you right into the centre with plenty of watering holes and food halls en route and around.
A great place to stay for a visit to Krakow and beyond!!!

Room Tip: If the heating is on open the windows and take ear plugs!!!

The Freedom Hostel is well situated to explore Krakow by foot tram or bus. It's clean and well equipped. The staff are helpful and go the extra mile to make sure you are well looked after and know what you need to do. Breakfast is basic and welcome with the kitchen always open and plenty of tea and coffee available. The only minor hassle (for a lazy person like me!) is the lift being broken and 4 flights of stairs to climb at the end of a day out exploring the amazing city. The rooms are plenty big enough and bedding/towels provided.
The building was the SS headquarters so it is MASSIVE.
There are all sorts of excursions you can book from the hostel, but they will help you work out transport etc if you want to go it alone.
The museum in the basement is well worth visiting BUT be prepared for an emotional experience for obvious reasons.
Would recommend to anyone as it seemed cheap but i didn't compare prices elsewhere.

Room was clean, tidy and neat. Rooms were big enough for two people to stay. The hostel was in good location i.e. it was easy to go anywhere from the hostel.
Amenities were good. The breakfast service was excellent. Behaviour and helping mentality of the staff were very good. However there had no bath towel. Also no sufficient toilet paper were kept in the toilet or when the toilet paper was finished, it was not supplied.

For the price I couldn't of asked for any more. We stayed in the 3 bed room which was spacious and had large en suite shower room.
The location was only a short walk to the main market square with lots of shops on the way.
The room was clean as were the hallways and kitchen.
Staff at the desk were always very friendly and booked our trips to the Salt mines and Auchwitz with free pick up from the hostel which was handy.

Have stayed twice at this hostel. First time had sizeable room but second time was smaller and felt boxed in. The bathrooms are clean and modern. The breakfast consists of hard boiled eggs, frankfurters, hard bread, cereal and yoghurt. We usually went out for breakfast as everything is really cheap In Poland. The staff are really helpful and friendly except the cleaner who is scary! Would recommend for a cheap holiday but if you want real comfort, avoid.
