“An impressive spiritual experience, and one of the highlights of our tour of Eastern Europe.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

Our tour stopped at the Jasna Gora Monastery at Czestochowa, in Poland's Silesia, to view the Black Madonna, and this all too brief hour or so stop was one of the high points of our tour of Eastern Europe.

As we walked into the Church to view the Black Madonna, you could see the intense devotion and belief on the faces of the crowd of rapt, adoring worshipers, and could feel an almost palpable spiritual force pouring out of them.

A memorable and very impressive experience.

“Crowded”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2012

Get a guide or read about this before going. Go upstairs to review the various offerings. I enjoyed the various silver engravings behind the black Madonna.

“Interesting sanctuary”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

Impressive sanctuary that one should not miss. Impressive processions of devout Polish people. Crowded. Squeeze through the crowd and do the tour along the brass railing to beyond the black madonna.

“This is a busy church and should be left to those who want to worship there”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2012

Our tour stopped here en route from Krakow to Warsaw, a very long drive made worse by the road works in Poland at present. I have known since I was a child how important this place is to all Poles. Our lady of Czestochowa, the Black Madonna, is an icon of huge importance to this country. And on the day we arrived so did bus loads of teenagers who, we were told, were there to ask the Madonna to help them in their final school exams. And it was the anniversary of the plane crash that wiped out the Polish government a couple of years ago. So the faithful were there in force. It was impossible to move in places.
We therefore tried to eat at the food kiosks until the service was over. The food was dire: a burger that was soaked in wet salad was inedible. Most of group managed with a struggle to get an ice cream. Later we went into the church after the congregation had dispersed and I am pleased I caught a glimpse, albeit at a great distance, of the famous icon. But I feel it is best to leave this to those to whom the religious experience is the reason for being there.

“Excelent for Catholics. But if you aren't...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2012

If you aren't catholic or you don't want to become it, better don't go. This is the most religious site in Poland. People go there to pray, pray and pray. It is also nice to see the picture and its different dresses and the museum. The new baroque church will be something extraordinary. It can be already visited even if the works aren't concluded.
