I booked the hotel after leaving another hotel near the train station in the town. The room and bar was fresh, located in the completely refurbished building, close to the old town. The lobby, stairs and especially the modern lift are very impressive. The room which I shared with my partner, was comfortable, clean and cosy. The staff was attentive and very helpful. The breakfast buffet was very rich, offering variety of cold and hot dishes. The car park is situated in the front of the hotel, very handy.

Room Tip: The room was very quiet so no complaints at all :)

A beautiful modernised hotel a bit out of the centre of the city on a quiet residential street. Parking is available in front of the hotel - the hotel will give you a ticket to display. It is not guarded, so use your judgement, it certainly makes a safe impression. The room we had was spacious and had windows on two perpendicular sides giving cross ventilation which was much needed on a relatively hot night. The beds were excellent and the room was well and beautifully furnished. The breakfast buffet was heavily eastern European concentrating on pork and cheese with an assortment of breads but no toast. All in all a good hotel in an interesting old former German (was Allenstein) city with a charming old town square which has some pleasant looking bistros.

Please consider my review with the 4 star rating only as valid for days with normal temperatures (not above 25* Celsius).

I think this is a really nice hotel, with a noble style from start to finish. Everything is polished and has a bit of a colonial feel, hence you will feel like Dyplomat on his journeys. The reception area, the restaurant, the cafe, the elevator, the corridors, the rooms, are all furnished in the same style and really make an impression. This hotel is something special and they try to maximize the effect. This means your first impression will be a very good one, from the outside, to the inside, up to your own room, which has the exact same look, as the rest of the hotel.

Location: The hotel is located a bit outside of the old town. Maybe a 10 to 15 minutes walk to the old town. It is located in a not so loud street which can even feel deserted in the evening or on the weekend. It is easy to reach by car, but you have to remember that you will need a parking card on weekdays, if you want to park you car outside of the hotel. The hotel will happily give you a parking card, if you tell them that you need one. No need to buy one yourself.

Rooms:

The rooms are all tastefully furnished, like the rest of the hotel and they do look like everything fits to each other. It just looks like it was made out of one piece. The rooms have almost everything you could need, a flat tv (with english and german channels), two phones, a safe, a fridge with mini-bar, a closet and they also supply you with slippers and a wardrobe. The bathroom is roomy and almost impeccable, with a large mirror and very nice shower cabin. While the bathroom is spacious, the room itself can feel a bit cramped. It has two beds or one joined, larger bed two chairs to sit, a small bank adjoining to the bed and a desk with a fan, which all take up a lot of space. The room is not very big, so all in all it can feel a bit cramped.

Another word of caution: The room has a fan and it also gets fresh air from the central air condition system. This is NOT enough in hot summer months. When we arrived our room was striking hot. We tried to get fresh air in the room while opening all windows, but to no avail. I never felt comfortable in the room in the three nights were we stayed in the hotel. No matter how much windows we opened, it always felt to warm in the room. The air flow from the central air conditioning unit didn't help at all and the fan was way to loud, to be left on all night. So, if you do plan to stay in summer, get a room with a single adjustable air-con unit or do not stay here. It was really on the edge of being unbearable.

Otherwise the sleeping quality can be quite high. The beds a a bit narrow, but not to soft. The quality of the linen is high and you are supplied with a smaller and a bigger pillow. Everyone can use the pillow of his liking.

They also supply you with enough toiletries in the bathroom, as you would expect from a 4 star hotel.

Staff performance:

The staff in the hotel is generally nice, but not overly welcoming. It always saddens me, when the guest has to be the one who greets first. But when begin to talk the staff, you will feel that they tend to freeze up a bit and are generally warm and friendly. English may not be their first language to communicate, so take your time if you have a question or problem you need to discuss. I was a bit disappointed at one point, when i asked for an internet cafe and received the answer that they don't know such a place in Olsztyn. No effort was made to look up such a place for me. When i asked a day later about an adress, more effort was put into my request and they marked the place on a map for me. Guess the service is a bit uneven.

Breakfast:

Ohh yes. The breakfast buffet is huge and of rich quality. But, it's really a eastern european breakfast. This means it really hearty food, nothing you would confuse with a continental breakfast. Instead of several types of marmalade, you will get a lot meat and vegetables in all variations. It looked very good, but i'm mire a fan of a sweet breakfast, so i sticked with the two types of marmalade and the small offering of fruits and cake. But my father enjoyed the rich and hearty polish breakfast very much.

A small advice for breakfast: There is seldom someone around. If there is someone around, ask him or her for some hand made coffee (cappucino e.g.), as the coffee at the buffet is really awful, but they will bring you some better coffee on request.

Verdict:

All in all i liked almost all aspects of the hotel. But, remember: It can get hot in Olsztyn ! And if it is hot in the city, you will sweat a lot in your room ! Better book a hotel with air-con or a better room at this hotel with individual air-con, as it can get unbearable. But if you arrive in autumn or winter, i don't see a better choice in this city ! Recommended !

Stayed one night. Helpful staff. Nice mid size room. No airconditioning. The much praised breakfast wasn't ready at opening time, and I wasn't to fired up about it. 200 zloty for the room including breakfast makes it a bargin. Will consider returning.
