At par with Carska interior-wise and food-wise, cheaper price-wise. For those not very familiar with Bialowieza, Carska restaurant has been considered a best place to eat there.
Now's there's a true competitor - Pokusa Restaurant. While Carska is bigger but located off Bialowieza (really not within a walking distance), Pokusa is quite small but located at the heart of the village.
We had there our best (in terms of game) dishes for years.
Deer carpaccio was outstanding, so were "hunter's roast wild boar served with dumplings and fried beetroot" or dumplings stuffed with various game meat.
We also tried braised ribs served with fried vabbage, bacon and roasted potatoes (a challenge for those of you who are cholesterol and calories conscious :-)
Wild mashroom soup was OK, even a bit above average but a real treat was the first thing we ordered when we entered the restaurant.
Since it was a frozy and snowy afternoon, a friendly waitress offered to serve us with made-to-order hot beer with honey, clove, cinnamon and ...a slice of an orange. Unsual but very tasty.
The place is definitely not inexpensive but considering quality and quantity, it is a best deal around.
