“Lacking excitement”
Reviewed April 14, 2014

If gold medallions, church art, porcelain, portraits of leading Pomeranian figures is your stuff, then the museum holds much to amuse you, but the contents are few and the displays are simple and unimaginative. Some of the art is breathtakingly beautiful, but it was not a good place to take children. Having said all of this, the staff are welcoming and helpful, if you can speak Polish.

“Very nice medieval to renaissance displays”
Reviewed March 22, 2014 via mobile

This museum had some interesting displays regarding the military weaponry from medieval times up to the Renaissance. There was some excellent portrait paintings done by little known local artists. Subject matter was usually local citizens. Worth a trip to spend a couple of hours.

“Maritime museum”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

National Museum in Szczecin main branch is located on Wały Chrobrego in big grey building with a tower, and holds the name of Maritime Museum. The address given here (Staromłyńska Street) takes you to the Modern Art Galleries, which is also a branch of National Museum in Szczecin. Main building is in most attractive place in town, on high river Odra embankment. Boulevard below the museum is always full with special colourfull and loud events, so don't get pulled away from the entrance! The clue to the exhibitions is in the museums name: there's everything you would expect - sea, ships and seamen. If you are brave enough, after you got familiar with everything relating to sea, you can think about climbing some of 300 steps to get to the top of the viewing tower. This is one of at least three such structures in Szczecin (in really close distance) but with the hardest reach (narrow steep steps, no place to rest), so if you are not fit - go to the cathedral and let the lifts do the job for you. Ticket for the museum permanent exhibitions doesn't cover the tower, you need to spend a bit more for an opportunity to sweat out on the staircase.

“Worth a look”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

Not your typical museum but worth a look for a spare 1-2 hours. Walk up to the tower for the views. There's limited space to stop on the way up and it's around 300 steps. Tower 5zl pp and Museum 8zl.
