“The suprisingly nice city of Gdynia.”

Well arrived here in Gdynia on the 3.11.2011, a wet cold afternoon and was to start working here for my Norwegain company.Yes! a jobb that was to last ten months and Im still here with a short break of tree months last summer.
Gdynia is a very nice city with a tremendous amout of very nice people kind and very helpful if you can communtcate and speak english clear and slowly. The Town has a lot to offer if just look hard enough. They have museums and they are for days when it rains, if you stay that long. The weather is good to mention straight away, It,s very stable here they, forecast the rain but in many cases its so little at times that its not worth mentioning. They have a lot of of-land winds which gives fantastic sailing here with perfict conditions and, the sailing atmosfere is just wonderful. They have a very good smal boat harbour with everythig you need.
Well back to the city its self its, pretty flat around the town center so you can walk quite far before you notice thats its time for a coffee. There is lot of cafe`s and they all sell good coffee and all types of teas.Kakes and buns are in most cafe`s and a lot of wonderful choices. All the pubs serve coffee as well so there,s no need to worry about that. Unfortunately not all the pubs have the same standards of cleans if your looking for a tiolet that keeps to the three golden rules Water, soap and paper!,this can suprise you many times when out traveling especially in earlier east european countries though I,d like to say its getting better. Many pubs cafe`s restaurants are now seen that clean tiolets a there "visit card " now.
Gdynia offers several places to dance for old and young mostly at the weekends but some also during the week, especially in the summer season.Car museum is not so big but very interesting also with a lot of motor bickes, well worth the visit on a rainy day. Go kart track at the bottom- end of town and has reasonable prices.Cinema in town "Multi Kino" that offers many new films wth very good seating and again reasonable prices. I saw the latest Jame Bond film a was seated like a king for the lengh of the film, very comfortable. The theater is also a very good attraction with both Polish and foreign actors.Theres a musical theater at the top end of town not so far away fro the bowling alley, so theres enough to visit and enjoy in the nice city of gdynia.
Last butv not least! always show your gratitude in restaurants pubs and cafe`s by leaving a tip.Very good is about 10% exellent can be a tittle more. Please remember " never throw money on to the table its fround upon. Taxis here in Gdynia are all very safe but not all the drivers speak englishand of course your fingers can be use also.Theres not a lot of swindling here in this town but becareful in Gdansk. S class is the best taxi company with the drivers and the most polite.
One more thing for the ladys! Shopping there now opened a new and very large shopping center called Riviera and its got what most women need " and don,t need" but, its warm so you don,t need take a coat with you to carry all day.
Want to take your husband with you so take a trip to the large market hall at the bottom of town, it has a lot of interesting things and it has two floors both ground and below ground.
Have a very nice stay in Gdynia and renjoy what Ihave ejoyed the last two and half years.
Mr Colin.

I am probably bias here, as many of the items came from Plymouth Devon England. and also several of the ex naval gentlemen have donated their medals etc, to the museum.
there is a seat that was sent over to Gdynia from Plymouth, it used to be up the road in what is called Plymouth Square, also a red telephone, box. and a post box. it was put into the museum to save it from being damaged by the weather etc., we have been twinned with Gdynia for over 50 yrs. yes a lot of the signs are in Polish, but its quite easy to work out what they are. and now adays some of the young people who work there, are willing to try their english out.if you ask..,you can take pushchairs in , there is no problem. there was no lift when i was there, but there may be now. but polish people do a lot of walking and climbing stairs without lifts.for example our friends live on the 4th floor of one of the blocks of flats. no lift a chair on each floor...

I previously visited this museum 4 years ago not long after it first opened. At that time, although it wasn't quite finished, it was very enjoyable and had better exhibits than it now has. There used to be an interesting exhibition that told the story of the "Solidarity" movement, but that has now gone.
The museum which is free on fridays, now tells the history of Gdynia, which whilst some parts are interesting with English translations, I feel that there is too much room and not enough exhibits contained within.
There are 2 upper floors that house themed exhibitions from time to time, but whilst one may have been interesting because it was all about film and cinema, a lack of translation spoiled it.
