Just got back from a weekend break with friends. Hotel is in a superb location with all the historical buildings, museums etc practically round the corner. It's a very well maintained, clean Hotel with pleasant, helpful staff. Our room was on the small side but had a good-sized, modern bathroom.
There were a couple of minor complaints but considering we managed to book a room at less than £100 for 3 nights I was not going to say anything to staff or will bother mentioning here. This Hotel is very hard to beat at that price considering the location and would definitely be worth paying more.
ul Piwna is the best street for bars and cafes. Café Retro has a lovely, cosy atmosphere but we found coffees arrived lukewarm and cakes were mainly cheesecake or apple pie. Had a very nice oat cookie in there though! They don't do hot breakfasts. Presentation is lovely.
We preferred Pikawa which regrettably we only discovered just before we left. Great selection of coffees, teas, smoothies etc. I had a huge piece of apple pie, 3 inches high, served with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, all dusted with cinnamon for the equivalent of £2.
Swojsky Smak is worth a few minutes walk. Lovely country style interior, good quality Polish food, helpful, friendly staff.
Bar & Bistro also on ul Piwna (next to Pikawa) was brilliant for breakfasts. We found everywhere we ate and drank was cheap. The most expensive meal we had was at Fishmarkt. Nice meal but no better than other meals we had at much lower prices. There was a man in there who seemed to be the owner or manager who wasn't at all friendly. No smiles or pleasantries unlike the waitresses who, fortunately, were very good. He alone would prevent me going back (other than the bill which was as much as we'd spent on food in the whole of the previous 2 days!)
Altogether a nice place for a weekend break with lovely buildings in the Old Town. We had 3 full days there but 2 would be enough. Go while it's cheap before they join the Euro!
