“Hotel Wolne Miasto”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

It was the first time in Poland. The hotel position is great. We stayed in one of the attic rooms which are very spacious with comfortable beds. There was a not too nice smell in the bathroom when we arrived but it seemed to clear after a couple of hours. The bathroom had a corner bath which was a little short in length but better than just a shower. There is no lift to the 3rd floor just to the second, you have to climb the steps from the second floor. Everywhere seemed clean. The breakfast was the usual european buffet with cheese, meat etc. There were cereals and fruit and yogurts. We went out for breakfast the next day and we were suprised to find that the following day we were sent round to the other part of the hotel for breakfast. Good job the weather was OK. Staff seemed OK, we ordered 2 cups of tea and the receptionist brought it to our room. The only real problem we had was the noise from the street. The attic rooms double glazing is not very good and there was noise until maybe 4 or 5 in the morning!

Having travelled a lot around Europe, I found this hotel expensive for the experience. When we arrived we were sent around the block to an extension wing, with a smaller reception, next to a hostel and above a Mexican, more on that later. The staff were pleasant and efficient. Our room was small, with a window approx a3 in size and so high in the wall when we looked out we were looking at the sky. The bathroom was tiny. The shower was a joke, with the shower curtain the size of a medium beach towel resulting in the floor being soaked on both sides. The free wifi worked fine on my iPad. We paid for breakfast included. We can't complain about the food, the rolls and croissants were miniature in size and so so, on the second day when we went down, they told us that we had to go around to the main hotel, this meant leaving by the front door out onto the Main Street and around the block, fine as it wasn't raining, but nothing I ever experienced before. This breakfast had much more on offer than the previous day, and made us feel even more like second class in relation to the experience the other guests were receiving. Just to quickly mention the Mexican restaurant. This hotel promotes them with a poster in the lift and the lift itself will take you to the basement and into the restaurant. On Saturday evening at 7.30 we went down were the very unpleasant boss barked "no places", we were not sure if he may have had places later, but he marched on his way. My partner and I went outside and couldnt decide what to do, so she went back in and spoke to another waiter who said yes we have places, my partner called me down into the restaurant only for the boss to come over again and say no we don't have places. He had many free tables, but for some reason decided we we're not good enough. I've never had this experience before and really wanted to confront the guy, but in the end didn't. We went to Buddha for an Indian instead which was great and I would recommend. Also around the corner is a place called sempre which served very nice pizza. Back to the hotel in summing up, it was very clean and tidy in a great location but we couldn't swing a cat in the room, the bathroom was very small, the shower was a joke and we didn't enjoy the experience. The staff were pleasant i really can't complain about them.

Stayed here for three days. Chose this hotel because of numerous recommendations on Trip Advisor, so thank you to previous reporters. The location is superb- within a couple of hundred metres of all the main sights. Room large and well furnished with armchair and sofa, large comfy bed. Bath and decent shower. Very clean.Staff very pleasant, keen to help. Huge selection of bars and restaurants nearby. We ate one night in the hotel restaurant. Decent food, smaller portions and less heavy than typical Polish cooking. Breakfast costs extra and looks to be typical Central European buffet. Too much for my morning appetite so we had coffee and pastries or jacecnica (Polish scrambled egg can be wonderful and is better found in smaller places which cook it individually, rather than kept on hotel hotplates!) from local kawiarna (coffee/ bakery/cake shop).
Hotel's only drawback, mentioned by others, is lack of air conditioning (25 degree daytime temperatures for our September days) but room had decent fan. Also noise from street below. We were on third storey at the front of the building and didn't find it bothersome, but others might, particularly with windows open. We'd definitely stay again.

The hotel were really helpful before we even got there, they only had two of our three nights available at first but contacted us nearer the time when they had further availability. They even made sure I had a hairdryer in our room!! The hotel is in two parts - with two separate entrances and meals available in both parts (I think). We were in the part with the beautiful old reception area and the lovely staircase - I would certainly ask to be in this part again. It seemed like a good price for the quality of hotel although I was surprised that hotel accommodation was not cheaper in Poland as food is certainly so. The included breakfast was lovely - a good buffet and hot food could be ordered. Staff were very friendly, the location was brilliant (near everything, even the railway station) and I would certainly return here on my next trip to Gdansk.

Very nice hotel in a great location next to the old town square area. Very helpful staff. Only drawback was no air conditioning. If you have a room overlooking the street this could be noisy in the evening, and overnight, since you have to leave your windows open in the summer when it's warm. With earplugs it was no problem however. Breakfast not included in the price. Easy walk to train station. Would stay there again.

Our stay was almost perfect. To grab the bull by the horns, what was not so perfect was the arrival at the hotel. After a long drive we interacted with the female receptionist who was not very friendly as she explained that there were no parking spaces available. 'It was our own fault, we did not call ahead, etc'. No sympathy whatsoever. In any case, we were not going to let our stay be spoiled by the unfriendly lady and from that moment on the experience developed as we hoped for. Hotel very clean, good facilities, excellent location, quiet rooms and the check out was without any hassle. All in all good quality for a reasonable price and the hotel is to be recommended.

I has been to hotel WM few years ago while travelling in business so I knew it while looking for a place for romantic weekend in Gdansk. During last few years the hotel was enlarged which suprisingly did not changed it cosy atosphere. Especially worth trying are the attic rooms! Hotel is situated perfectly - 2 minutes walking from the main street of the Old Town. It is furbished really nicely. Room was very clean. I cannot complain about anything which is not very usual since I am certainly picky person:)
