“Charming, atmospheric Guest House”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

We had a thoroughly lovely stay at the Gotyk. The location is excellent and the street is, as everyone says, very pretty. The rooms are nicely decorated and have more character than the generic hotel chains. The breakfast is basic but perfectly fine, with a selection of cold meats, cheeses and jams/preserves. For Wifi you will need to use the reception area but there are lots of free Wifi points in the town centre and by the river. For eating out, we recommend the Pod Lososiem, for both the ambience and the food. The river boat trips are also enjoyable and the Road to Freedom is well worth a visit.

We stayed here in Feb/March 2014. It's in a really good location on a lovely street and close to the river. The room was spacious with a very comfy bed. The bathroom was also nice with a good shower. Breakfast was basic but we didn't expect much-you can order it to your room also if you want. We stayed in room 4 which was large and bright. It's not a top of the range place to stay but great value for money and would definitely return.

The staff was always welcoming, helpful, and friendly. Gdansk's tourist area is relatively small and easily walked and the Gotyk House is well placed as the starting point. Breakfast was quite good; always the same each day (that's typical) but there are enough different items to select from that it doesn't get boring.

Staying in the oldest house in Gdansk was also a treat. The style and furnishings were creative and interesting. The ambience of the hotel is definitely very good.

Noise, both inside and out, were the only detractors during our stay. Our room faced Mariacka street, where one night a group of boisterous teenagers decided to entertain all nearby with their portable stereo. However, the noise didn't last past about 10:30pm--I believe that someone from Gotyk may have sent them away--so things ended up fine. We stayed in December so bar noise (bars are across the street) and street noise was quite minimal overall. During the tourist season, I would guess it to be much more of an issue, but don't have first-hand knowledge.

Inside, each morning, we heard the clatter of cupboards and dishes as breakfast was prepared for guests eating before we were ready to wake up. This is a difficult problem to solve when the sound travels so easily throughout the house but it would be helpful if doors could be closed or movements could be a bit softer. This noise occurred for a short time and of course only in the morning.

Price was reasonable and overall, our stay was quite good and we would stay there again.

Very nice staff, nice rooms, excellent location. Breakfast not so amazing but included in the price. A bit expensive for Poland but still the best value for the price around town, probably. I would definitely recommend it.

If you are staying in Gdansk, Gotyk House is the place for you to be. A little B&B right in the heart and in the spirit of the old city.

As for breakfast, it feels like home. A small room, floral tablecloth and dishes filled with delicious food.

The only problem was the taxi company the hotel cooperates with as its standards vary. On the way to hotel, the first day, the taxi driver was a real professional but on the way to airport, the last day, the drivers were very rude and charged us more that originally agreed.

Room Tip: You'd better go for a room on the first or second floor if you can carry your luggage upstairs...

Thank You for your feedback.
We will investigate taxi driver behaviour.
We will talk to the management of taxi company and make sure it will not happen again.

Wonderful place to have a rest during your visit to Gdansk. The hotel is situated in the very center of the old town. The stuff is very friendly, polite and patient. The room is rather small, but comfortable. There was a little problem with hot water in the morning and it was a little bit noisy at night because of the tourists walking the street, but everything else was perfect. The hotel has it's own tiny charming museum downstairs, you can buy souvenirs there. The guide can tell you legends of the Gothic House in English, Russian, Polish or Lithuanian.
