“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed January 4, 2009

We stayed at the Villa Angela in between Christmas and the New Year. Having read previous reviews we choose this hotel even though it was a bus ride into the Old Town of Gdansk, the bus stop is just over the road and buses are frequent. The staff were very helpful and professional, the rooms were clean, modern, warm and cosy. Breakfast was excellent and there was something for everyone's taste. The walls in the main part of the hotel are a bit thin so if you are a light sleeper it can be problem, but the hotel does encourage quiet time between 11-00pm and 7-00am and even on New Year's Eve it wasn't a problem. The price for the hotel rooms are probably half of what you would pay in the centre. We really enjoyed our stay here and Gdansk is a lovely city to visit but hotels are going up fast and I think now is a good time to visit before western ways change it.

Having read all the reviews for this hotel I had no difficulty in booking my 2 day stay there.
Arrival was easy and took the suggestion to go by taxi - cheap - but the bus routes would have been easy also if the numbers had been known.
The external appearance is excellent clean and tidy and welcoming. The front desk greeting was superb by a yng lady whose English was excellent.
I had opted for a deluxe room (miinutely more expensive) which was on the 1st floor of the main building. It consisted of 2 bedrooms both large with reclining sofas in both. In the main room there was a TV and a fridge. Provided was unlimited coffee tea etc and a kettle.
The layout of the room and presentation was quite excellent - So much space! A good view over the city - not that it is beutiful!
The bed was large and very comfortable.
The bathroom was of the highest order - shower, toilet, basin and heated towel rail all perfectly designed and towels beautiffully presented evn to the extent that the hand towels were tied with red ribbon!!
Provided was a hairdryer, soaps shampoos and even a set of toothbrushes with paste and shaving equipment!
The decorative order was perfection. Storage for clothes etc in plentiful supply and also as it was very cold the heating was controlled by yourself and very effective.
The whole ambience was superb.
The breakfast 7-10 was very good being the usual cold buffet but also a hot buffet eggs bacon etc etc. Huge variety of good teas coffee and fruit juices. This was all very very well layed out and presented. The quality was v good.
I can not fault this hotel and can only say that staying at some of the larger chain hotels - Mercure, Holiday Inn etc would NOT have been as good and especially at the price.
I think it says plenty when the notice on the door says "no vacancies" in Mid November!!
A terrific stay can not be faulted in any way.

Although I usually prefer a more central location for city breaks after reading the excellent reviews on this accommodation , I decided to take a chance on it. I was not disappointed. Excellent in every aspect. Although not asked for I was given room 311 on the top floor in the main building which has a balcony and has very nice views over part of the old city. Be prepared to sleep with the balcony door open as it does get rather hot in summer with the sun out - there is no aircon or ceiling fan. Having said that, at the price they charge I would not expect either. Not recommended for anyone with mobility problems, as there is no lift and steep steps leading into the main building.
A few suggestions re local travel. As others have said - excellent bus service every 10 mins - use buses 130/184/384.
If you want to get closer to the old town rather than get off in front of the main railway stn use bus no. 115. Also note that if you do get a bus to the accommodation the bus stop for these buses is not in front of the main rlwy stn - but off to the left -around the corner from the KFC building. If you decide to use a train to go to Sopot or Gdynia use the SKM service. You do not have to enter the main station building, but head for the gap between it and the KFC building, where you can buy a ticket on platform 4 for 4.50 PLN to Gdynia - 13 stops away. Oh, and suggest you visit the tourist information office at the airport, if thats where you arrive, get some good info and maps and a 24hr bus/tram ticket for 9.70 PLN and catch the 'B' bus - not the 110, which does not go to the main railway stn. Enjoy !!

Really nice hotel.
Don't try to get there on your own means for the first time, as the bus stop names are indicated in the bus, but neither anounced in the bus or clearly marked on the street.
Once a taxi will have brought you there, it will be easy to ride the bus, which is a ten minutes ride to the center, and there are buses nearly every 5 minutes outside the hotel.
The hotel is located in front of a gas station and of a supermarket. The supermarket is a hard-dicounter, but you have Carrefour within a 15 minutes-walk or a 2 minutes bus ride, although the bus doesn't exactly stops at Carrefour.
The hotel is plain, clean. Very cheap. I had a single room which was not the smallest single room I have ever had, but not the biggest one either. The window was awfully small, and the door was very tiny. There was a gap at the bottom of the room's door, but I used the bedquilt to fill it during the night!!
The hotel was a litlle bit noisy, as the doors are so tiny, but everything was ok.
The breakfast is a little bit less than standard, but it's still ok! The staff is very helpful and friendly and I would recommend to stay there.
It's cheap and you get a good service for the price!

I stayed here for 3 nights in February with my husband and two daughters, and found to be very pleasant. The hotels is actually two buildings and unfortunately our daughters room was not in the same building as ours but they are old enough to be able to left alone, but this may be a problem if your children were younger. The hotel staff were really very nice people who tried very hard to assist where they could. The rooms were lovely and very clean. My husband and I were given a triple room which was very pleasant, the third bed was in a seperate little alcove of its own, very sweet. Yes the walls are very thin, luckily all we heard was tv noise from the next room on the first night, after that i made sure we had a few polish beer (excellent) before bed and it was fine.
Location, I have to say I did not like very much. We tended to get taxis to the old town, and it would range from 10pln to 23pln and do not expect the taxi drivers to speak english...or even crack a smile!
There is a shop directly across the road, which was very like Lidl, also a Filling Station close by.
Breakfast was just okay, nothing special. We did not have tea/coffee in our room, but it was available all day in the dining room. They have a cat and a dog residing in the hotel, much to my daughters delight. It did not bother us at all.

We had a very enjoyable stay in Gdansk at the Angela from 20-23 Feb 2008. All the hotel staff we met were exceptional for their helpfulness, efficiency and friendliness. The hotel was very clean and attractive both inside and outside. The room was a reasonable size with two twin beds forming a very comfortable "king size" bed, a desk / dressing table with TV and tea making facilities, sofa, balcony, en-suite with toiletries etc. The room had a direct telephone number - hence after a quick, cheap call we were able to receive a long international call without any pressure to release the hotel line.
The buffet breakfast was very good and well stocked with a good choice of meats, fish, cheese, jams, cereals, fruits, juices, teas etc.
Now the two buts. The walls are thin. As long as the other guests are considerate or you are not a light sleeper then this is OK. I had 1 bad night out of 3 whereas my wife had 3 good nights.
The other consideration is location. It is a 10 minute bus ride to the old town but the bus stop is very close and the buses (115, 130, 184, 384) are very frequent and cheap. Tips - a 24 hour bus ticket costs only 9.10 zlty including the airport bus - buy at the airport info desk. 15 zlty buys a 24 hour bus and train ticket covering Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia.

Just back from a 4 night stay at the Angela, location is a bit out of the way but public transport is pennies, and taxis are not bad either, (18Zl to town, 31 Zl to the Airport}. Hotel is absolutely spotless, rooms a bit on the small side but OK for a short break, staff VERY friendly & polite and the Breakfast is the best we've ever encountered in Poland having stayed in many hotels across the country. Only thing I can fault it on is, the walls are very thin, you'd better be a sound sleeper if you want a good nights rest, and the lack of bars or restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel. {We like to go where the locals go, but on this occasion we couldn't find it!). All in all, a great find, and unbeatable for the price.
