“Centrally located, clean, good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

4 of us stayed in a mixed dorm. there are bunk beds (2 levels) but they are sturdy enough.

it was clean and the staff were helpful. a simple but adequet breakfast was included and there is a good cafe at reception for a decent coffee.

the best aspect was the location, walking distance to all town centre sites and the train station. reception was not 24 hours but you can access 24 hours with the keys they give you so all good.

I would definitely stay again if visiting brno.

Very clean, comfortable, seemingly recently renovated and friendly hostel in the very center of Brno. I had a private room for roughly 60 USD and was happy with it - in particular with that excellent firm mattress, a lot better for a traveller's back than those pudding-soft beds you get in many hostels. Clean bathroom, although no windows. Friendly and flexible staff. They offered me a breakfast package to go, as I had to leave at the crack of dawn - they ended up forgetting (or I did not find the breakfast pack in the fridge), but I appreciated the thought anyway. The hostel has a nice educational touch - each room is named after either a famous person (e.g. Janacek) or a place (e.g. Austerlitz), and a corresponding bilingual explanatory panel is on the wall. Love it!

I am sorry about the breakfast, Honzicek, we usually offer the breakfast package when someone has to leave early. I do not understand what went wrong this time. But according to the rest of your review, you liked your stay at us very much, I am happy for that.

Reception is not opened 24h, but if you need to leave earlier, they will find a solution for you. The receptionist even gave us a breakfast to go. The room for 2 (Mucha) was quite small, but it did not concern us at all, it was very nicely designed and comfortable. Nights are very quiet, the window in my room led to the inner yard, but the street was surprisingly quiet anyway, even though it is in the very centre of the city. And the coffee downstairs? One of the best I have ever had. They really put a big effort into the quality. The whole place gave me a very romantic, cosy and friendly impression!

We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived, Petra took a lot of time to show us the best places to visit in the town! The location could not get mich better, so easy to get everywhere and to and from the airport, best night spots and restaurents. Top place, top weekend! Highly recommend Hostel Mitte!

Stayed here in March and loved it.

Great clean rooms, with a fabulous living space on the top floor.

Slightly strange smell in the bathroom (damp as no windows), but really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay here again. REALLY well placed for the centre of town and next to a Tesco's and shopping centre.

Thank you, Boniface, for such a good rating. I am sorry about the smelly bathroom, the absence of windows does not help, I know, but we are using the ventilation. Do not hesitate to come back!

I've done 2 last minute stays here and didn't find anything exceptional except for maybe the location. I felt it was a little steep simply compared to other Czech hostels and the fact it is not Prague.

The check in desk is the same as the small cafe counter..they simply use a laptop for check in..they require a desposit for the key... the deposit is no problem but they don't open the desk until 7a.m. .. Not sure what the alternative is to checking out early but the morning I was leaving the girl was a minimum ten minutes late.. not a big deal unless you're catching a bus or train early.

Biggest concern was the bathroom.... large waterheaters are exposed and hanging horizontally...could be very dangerous if it were to fall.
Secondly, the bath didn't drain well..standing water when you finish a shower... and plus,
the smell of the bathroom seemed sour..just my experience

Again, nothing exceptional. I have since secured alternative accomodations when I visit Brno.

Hello, I am sorry to hear that you did not like your stay at Mitte that much. We are trying to do our best for your comfort and the travellers are usually more than satisfied with the atmosphere and fascilities. We always give back the deposit or we do not require it if you need to leave before the reception opens. The hostel is tiny, so even the exuipment in the bathrooms need to be placed thoughtfully. Sincerelly, nobody has ever complained about it, but I will check it for you :). And do not worry, the water heaters are not gonna fall down!
And last but not least, we are very happy for our location and I do not think we are going to move to Prague, Brno is cool! :)

To be honest - Hostel Mitte is one of the greatest hostels I've ever stayed. Pretty much everything is great about the place - big and cosy dorm room, very comfortable beds, cleanliness of the place, apmosphere, location (right in the city center, 10-15 minutes on foot to train station and airport bus station), kindness of staff, decent breakfast... Everything, but the price! 20 euro for a night in a dorm room is too much, as good hostels in this part of Europe are normally 2-3 or even 4 times cheaper... Anyways - the place is great and I can recommend it, just the price is too high.
