Hotel Jonathan
Ranked #29 of 76 Brno B&B and Inns
Reviewed February 17, 2013

The hotel is a nice, small, well-kept hotel outside, but well connected to the center of Brno. The owner and his wife run the show, and that gives it a little bit of a smaller feel, but they do a really good job. In fact, we were so impressed after our first night that we ended up cancelling our reservation at a different hotel and extended at the Hotel Jonathan.

We thought our rooms were nice. Our large party of four adults and three kids needed to reserve two rooms, and one of those rooms needed a second bed and a crib, but if it wasn't for the extra beds, the room would've been quite spacious (both rooms were on the second floor facing the road). There was a small desk and TV in the room, too. Rooms had their own bathrooms. Wireless Internet was included in the price of the room and worked well for us. We found the rooms to be clean, and while not fancy, everything worked and was full, working order. There were other guests in the hotel, but unless they were walking past our room, we did not hear them. Overall, the rooms were functional, clean, and even a little pleasant.

Our reservation included breakfast, and we were definitely happy with this aspect of our stay. Breakfast included rolls, meat, cheese, yogurt, juice, cereal and milk if you wanted it (often a key for kids who aren't used to the standard European breakfast), and usually some kind of sweet. They also offered coffee if you wanted it. There was certainly enough food, and it was all really good.

The hotel's location, not in the center of town, may be a problem for some people, but probably shouldn't be. There is a bus stop almost right out the door, and the hotel typically has a few bus passes available for purchase at the reception desk. It is also within walking distance of a great restaurant. (Some other TripAdvisor posters have noted some other amenities that are close-by, so the hotel's location is probably even better than we thought.) It goes without saying that one could get a taxi, too. Since it's well connected to the center of town, the quiet location is well worth any extra effort one may have to make to use public transportation. You can walk around the quiet neighborhood, get something to eat at one of the nearby restaurants, and just enjoy peace and quiet.

We found the owner to be very accommodating, helpful, and responsive to all our questions and requests. The price is very fair — well worth it — and it was nice to note that in Europe, where paying with a credit card still isn't a given, it was an option here. We would definitely recommend staying here and would return ourselves should the opportunity present itself.

We came in very late in Brno by car, but the owner was really helpful on the phone and organised our room to be ready and by the time we arrived.
Room was very clean, quite, no noise.
Breakfast was made for us, nice and fresh,...
Nothing exceptional but 100% as it should be.
Will definately go again whe in Brno.

I spent a night here and I have to say that I was impressed. The visitor parks in front of an impressive modern house and inside, my room was enormous. The location is very quiet but one is not far away from the lively areas of Brno life. Breakfast was great. The owner speaks good English which was handy and he was very helpful. All in all a great value Hotel.

Room Tip: I think all rooms are great

We stayed in Hotel Jonathan this August 2012 and we were very pleased with this place. The personnel was very friendly and helpful, the room was very nice and clean and had nice view to pretty garden. The hotel itself was very pretty in pretty location. Dinner in nearby restaurant Marco Polo was excellent. We would recommend this hotel and we would come back here again for another GP :) J & E McIntyre, Scotland, UK.

I've stayed here for several weeks whilst working in Brno. It worked out really well and that was down to the owners who are very helpful people.
First it's worth pointing out that if like me you have lived in the Czech republic for a while you'll be aware that generally speaking customer service is due to enter the country sometime around 2035 if it's not delayed again. Anywhere that defies this general truth needs to be applauded. Hotel Jonathan is family run, the family have traveled outside of the country, understand foreigners, know what people are looking for and try to deliver it. If you need something ask them, they'll try to help. English is spoken within the family. You are not going to be left wondering where the conversation went wrong which so often happens in this country.
The hotel is functional, in the sense that things work. The owner built it himself, it's kept functioning, no-one is going to look skywards and blame the maintenance man. Decor isn't particularly fashionable but it's definitely clean and rooms are serviced properly. There's internet in the building, wired and fixed. It works and it's included in the price.
It's a semi B&B in the Czech style so you get breakfast and there's a fridge you can take drinks from and snacks. Mark off your tally as you go.
For evening meals just up the road is a reasonably priced local restaurant serving pizza, pasta and Czech/European dishes. Good place to eat, friendly as well. I used it as a living room in the evenings. It's got an outside seating area and it's kid friendly. There's a pool hall and bowling alley nearby and a new swimming pool about 200 meters away with an aqua park side so it's good for kids in bad weather as well as for people like me that like to swim a few laps before work. It's pretty cheap too. The aqua park also has a gym. You can use it (or/and) the pool for 50CZK (2 Euro) in the mornings (over 90 minutes) and a bit more in the evenings so it's like having a leisure center at the hotel. Worth noting and why I gave the hotel a score for pool and fitness center even though it hasn't got one. In practical terms it has, you just need to walk to it. I don't think the owners make enough of the proximity to that facility, I used it every morning.
The all important breakfast is solid: ham, eggs, bread, butter, cereal, yogurt and coffee strong enough for even me.
Transport is very good. There's a bus stop outside the door which will take you to town and back. It's also on the night bus route so you can always get back from a night out with no fuss. Zoo bus stops there too. Good location for the race track and also to get to the business park by the uni. Parking outside the door.
I mostly stayed as a business traveler but I had my family come over a weekend and it was good for them. Several other families went through during my stay and all seemed very happy.
In terms of price I'm not sure it can be beaten in Brno so it's definitely a value for money place given how good the experience is. Brno can be very expensive because of the expos and the small amount of local beds, there are not a whole lot of places to stay that would be near to as good as this for the money or for more come to think of it. The sports facilities nearby and transport in the area really top it off.
If you are looking for a place with a chandelier then OK go elsewhere but if you are traveling for work or on holiday with a normal budget and want a no hassle stay with friendly people then this would be for you.
Would be good for groups I should think as there is plenty of space and I'm sure specific needs could be catered for.

We travel to one MotoGP meeting every year. We have been to Brno before but this is the first time we have stayed at this hotel but not the last. Its very convenient being on a main bus route. Also there is a fine restaurant and a bar nearby. The rooms were clean, quiet, comfortable and free use of WiFi and Internet was a bonus. Ladislav the Owner could not have been more friendly and obliging. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed here three nights in early June and really enjoyed our time at Jonathan's. Free wifi, comfortable beds, good water pressure in the bathroom and a very nice breakfast made us feel very relaxed and well taken care of. There's easy access to the bus stop not even 50m from the door. Good staff who spoke decent English. Would definitely recommend for a budget b&b/guesthouse.

Room Tip: Try a room away from the street, sometimes the noise in the morning is a bit much for a light sleepe...
