“Nice hotel with some strange twists”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

At arrival the reception was rather cool and distant and we found out the hotel does not exchange currency which is rather annoying.

We had booked the half-board special which is something we would not do again. The included dinner is served in the beautiful Palazzo restaurant. We were given promising menu's until we announced we had prepaid for the set-menu. The menu's were taken away and we were told we would be entitled to a salad, salmon with puree and a fruit tart as desert... No alternative choices, that was it.

Very disappointing to get a set menu that is more than a few notches under the sophistication that the restaurant offers on the standard menu. One would expect the set menu to be a selection of the chef's specialities but it turned out to be a second class version, served in its most simplified version: salad with pure olive oil and a few mozzarella balls, salmon with puree and no sauce whatsoever and the fruit tart resembled one of the pastries you generally get served at breakfast.

All this is not to say this is not a good hotel, but it is not deserving of a 4 star establishment to offer an arrangement that resembles the most ordinary tourist trap.

The rooms are nice, but again some weird discrepancies: no pencil to write things down, doors are difficult to open with the electronic keys and recognition while we announced this was a booking to celebrate the anniversary of the couple that accompanied us during this trip.

We tried the massage, which was excellent and affordable. Breakfast is minimal when compared to the ones served in similar hotels in the region.

Room Tip: It seems all rooms have different sizes so it pays to enquire at booking or arrival

first of all this is a very stylish hotel. the building, the design and the furnishings are all top class. given the prices, it's all a great package. we were in one of the attic rooms which was big but only had a skylight. best of all...a whirlpool bath ! best hotel in brno.

We turned up after two days of road trip, so were glad of separate rooms to chill out.
Do not try to understand the room numbering, I was in 201, my friend in 202, was in the diagonal opposite corner of the hotel.
Rooms are well appointed but on close inspection, you can see some minor flaws - some misalignment in the woodwork and a general air of tiredness.
I was serenaded to sleep by the bass of a local club, good job I used to be able to sleep next to running generators.
An early start the next morning meant no breakfast.

Three of us stayed in a suite at this hotel in mid July for one night. Room was well appointed but no soap in the second toilet and we had to ask for another dressing gown to be supplied. Staff was helpful and pleasant. Breakfast can be improved, there seemed to be enough choices but the quality was not there. Overall we had a pleasant stay.

This hotel is well appointed with mostly helpful staff who speak enough English for non Czech speakers. Checkin a for a large group was fairly smooth. I was served the worst hotel meal I have ever had, Battered ? meat, small portions, dried out cake with icecream, slow service, usual expensive hotel wine.
On the meal alone I would not recommend this hotel which sets itself up as a superior accommodation.

Room Tip: Do not stay there

We stayed in Barcelo for 3 nights in Junior Suit No. 415. The room was nice and clean but we were disappointed from the bathroom. There were two washbasins but one of them was draining away hardly. The shower room was too small to move there and what a surprise, the drain didn’t work at all! There was also bath tub where the drain was working good, unfortunately, when you stayed there the big shower fixed above you was dropping cold water on your head – very inconvenient!!! After all, we found out that the seal around the bath tub (between the tub and screen) is partially missing so after having a shower the half of bathroom floor was full of water.
We complained all these problems at reception after our 1st night and until the end of our stay they didn’t do any improvement!!!????

The other imperfection found was a hole on the pillow linen (in the middle of the pillow) we got the second day of our stay. This I really wouldn’t expect in such kind of hotel.

The breakfast was OK. Location of the hotel is perfect.
The hotel park your car for €20,-/night but you need to call for when you need to drive away.

According to my experience the hotel Barcelo is overpriced without any personal touch. I would recommend hotel Grandezza in Brno instead were I stayed for two times already and was much more satisfied with.

The Barcelo Brno Palace hotel is the place to stay in Brno. Part of the Spanish Barcelo hotel group, the hotel is centrally located in a modernized old building. The modern touches and attempt to glamorize the place are sometimes on the edge. However, it's still stylish and offers an excellent quality. When I stayed in late May 2013 I had the good luck that we were upgraded to the suite - which was quite a treat (2 bathrooms, nespresso machine in living room, lovely design touches etc). We had half pension and had dinner and breakfast in the hotel. The dinner didn't offer anything special. But what they delivered was perfectly executed and in great quality. And breakfast offered everything what one could wish for in a breakfast buffet of this category. We very much enjoyed our stay and can recommend the Barcelo Brno Palace whole heartedly.

Room Tip: As there are often congresses etc, the atrium hall can get noisy in the evening (band, etc). So it c...
