Neighborhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Description: At the time Prague builders began constructing the building originally intended as a warehouse for the State Tax Authorities, the brewmasters in Pilsen had been brewing the unique golden Pilsner Urquell lager for over a decade, specifically since 1842. And the officials from the Main Customs office, which was located in the Nova Celnice building on namesti Republiky from 1885, possibly drank this unique lager after lunch, just like you do today. Celnice is one of the first Kolkovna restaurants and it offers everything a Kolkovna requires. First-class services, unique Czech cuisine and, most importantly, Pilsner lager. The restaurant also offers draft Velkopopovicky Kozel, Master 13° Semi-dark and Birell light.

My girlfriend and I visited on our first night in Prague following a recommendation from the hotel. The food was "rustic", over seasoned and mundane.

The starters of beef carpaccio and salmon tartar were acceptable if uninspiring (soggy carpaccio is never great) but held promise, however the two Czech "authentic" specials we tried were fundamentally the same dish except one had goose instead of pork, both served with sourkraut and dumplings. You know something is wrong when they're is three times more dumpling than meat!

Our waiter, if you could call him that, was dismissive, rude and overly pushy, constantly badgering us to order something or get another drink. In the end we became so fed up we got up and asked for the bill only to have it thrown at us over the front desk by yet another dismissive employee. When we tried to give them cash we were ignored until they finished their conversation.

Frankly a shocking display from a restaurant that claims to be authentic Czech.

Great food. Hubby had the duck and I had the salmon. Both were very tasty. Dinner and drinks came to 870k. So about 45 dollars. Close to Marriott and Hilton. Christmas market right in front of restaurant. Lovely place and with go there again with friends tonight.

i was in Prague for 5 days, eating everywhere, all sorts of breweries and stuff, but this is the best place to eat there. I loved chicken breasts with yogurt and potato.

My compliments to the chef.

Kolkovna Celnice is one of the restaurants in the Kolkovna chain. My wife and I tried different dishes here and they were all tasty and well cooked. Servings are rather substantial. I would like to point out Cesar salad and chicken wings as having very good value for money. The draft Pilsner and Kozel are excellent. Service is pleasant. Recommended.

On a return visit to Prague what could I do but visit Celnice again - it's part of the Kolkovna group of up-scale Prague pubs which are updating Czech food. It is conveniently located on Republic Square.
