We were passing the Town Square in Prague looking for a restaurant when we came upon U Modre Kachnicky. It looked warm and inviting so we entered. It was still relatively early (19:50) so the restaurant was quite empty. We were greeted warmly and seated. Then came the menu: Wow. What a selection of Czech traditional cuisine, International cuisine, wines and spirits. We ordered. Next came the bread: delicious, Eastern European dark bread selection. The appetizers arrived; marvelous; next the entrees: superb. My wife ordered lapin (rabbit); I, lamb shank. Just delicious. During the meal, we were afforded some wonderful live music: a panist who also sang a wonderful assortment of old chestnuts: Rogers & Hart, Cole Porter, etc. During the meal, the place filled up. A wonderful sense of warmth, friendship, and conviviality. It was a fantastic evening of excellent cuisine in a delightful, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We definitely plan to return. And we heartily recommend this restaurant to others.

Had this place on my list having read the Trip Advisor reviews. We visited for a late lunch, we weren't sure it was open but the staff welcomed us and led us upstairs to a lovely atmospheric room. The waiting staff were very attentive and took away our coats and brought us tap water as requested and the most delicious home made bread and two butters. We ordered the fish soup and the duck rillettes as starters and these were well presented and tasty. Our mains of veal goulash (which I requested with thyme potatoes instead of the Czech dumplings of which I am not a fan) and lamb shank were beautifully cooked and very flavoursome. The meals weren't particularly warm but I gather this is the norm in this neck of the woods. We had a jolly nice bottle of local Moravian Cabernet Sauvignon. We shared the 'dessert variation' which was three small portions of desserts from the main menu. These were ok but nothing to write home about. Two good espressos completed a very nice lunch. Service was attentive but not intrusive. More expensive than some places but worth it for the lovely surroundings and good service.

I had the duck with ginger for starters, which could be likened to sashimi with a traditional czech twist! A must have for mains is the brandy flamed dear. It is cooked by the table and is absolutely delicious. We drank czech red wine which was similar to a pinot noir. Although it was quiet a light tasting wine it suited the main course well. there was also live music throughout the dinner which was fun but not too loud so you could enjoy the meal and speak to each other.

All in all the food was fantastic and so was the service!

Much recommended to anyone wanting to try the czech cuisine

We have visited Prague several times and have always visited this little gem of a restaurant after a recommendation. This has been over several years and every visit has matched the last. The place is not easy to find at first but worth the effort. The staff are attentive and professional. The food is traditional, well prepared and delicious. The crepe dessert as prepared at the table is amazing and worthy of any top restaurant. Overall a wonderful quirky little place with brilliant atmosphere excellent food and friendly staff. Long may it continue. We will be back!!

We had the 9 course tasting menu and it was great to sample lots of the dishes on the main menu. The portions were very generous and the service was attentive. Would recommend but go hungry as we were stuffed!
