If you have purchased a ticket which includes the golden lane then I suggest you have a look. It gives you an idea of where the workers ( seamstress, herbalist etc )for the palace lived and you can purchase items as well. Be aware though it’s very busy and crowded.

At the end of the Prague Castle tour we visited the golden lanes section which is basically a series of minute houses occupied by workers and tradesmen attached to the castle in years gone by.

Unfortunately due to the layout this results in a bottleneck with people fighting past each other in tiny streets and even worse within the corridors inside some of the houses. No effective route is in place so you do get a lot of congestion that could be rectified if they could make it a one way system. I would have loved to explore this area a bit more but in the end we just walked through it as did many others.

The exit also suffered from the same problem with a single file exit point in place for a queue that was four to five people wide. Needless to say a long backlog was created.

The golden lane is a street of brightly colored houses in the Prague Castle. Built in the sixteenth century to house the palace guards and later used to house palace employees and craftsmen, the street has been beautifully preserved in its original form is now home to a medieval armory museum and souvenir shops.

The houses in the street have been preserved including the period interior furniture and fittings. A short description of the house and its occupants is written on a plaque in front of the house.

The armory museum houses an arms and armor collection from the medieval period and also has a crossbow shooting range.

Two defensive towers - the White Tower and the Dalibor tower are also part of the street.

Unfortunately, the street is narrow and gets crowded at peak times. The small houses are beautifully preserved. However the narrow entrances allow only a small number of visitors at a time thus creating queues and limiting the viewing time available.

Still it is beautiful and historic and definitely worth a visit as part of a tour of the Castle.

Disappointing. It's odd that you need to have a ticket to go to gift shops. It's a two star attraction if I've ever seen one
