“A great quiet space close to the Charles Bridge”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

Our first time back in Prague for 3 years, this time as tourists not as residents. We haven't stayed anywhere central before and I thought the top floor suite would give us the space we were used to and be close to everywhere we love in Prague.
The room was huge and well equipped. My only gripe would be the 3 flights of stairs you had to climb to get there. I'm not sure if they mention that on the booking website. Definitely not for the unfit or elderly or infirm. There is no real balcony as such more just a space on the roof to look out from, but WOW what a lovely view across the rooftops of Prague. I would never have imagined being so close to the Charles Bridge would be so quiet. When you see the sheer volume of people traffic using the road outside the Residence you would expect it to be very noisy. That said, unless you're clubbing, Prague doesn't really do late. Most restaurants are closed by 10.30-11 and the streets are much quieter.
There is much hype re the Hastens beds here. They didn't do much for me, far too soft and squidgy. But I'm sure the name will be enough to satisfy some people.
Breakfast, served from 7-11 am, was in a class of its own. I don't think I've ever seen so much food at breakfast time and lots of different options classified under different 'nationalities', French/Japanese/English/Russian, or the option of smaller portions of more traditional breakfast items. However, they were very strict about what you could order, no going 'off piste' and trying to make changes or combine options. Very irritating as the portions were so huge and we were wasting so much food when all we really wanted was eggs and toast!!
We liked this place. Close to the action, the room was more than adequate, the staff very helpful, 2 minutes to the tram stop, Charles Bridge literally on your doorstep..... there's not much else to say. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We had the top floor suite but all the rooms looked spacious, clean and tidy.

For of all the location of Residence U Cerneho Orla cannot be beat! It is a stone's throw away from the Charles Bridge and within walking distance to the most important sites in Praha. Upon arriving the front desk "male" reception was lovely-he helped us with our luggage and gave us an overview on everything! He was amazing but I did not get his name. The room was as pictured and welcome chocolates were a nice touch! Please note the overall the Czech people speak little English especially the elderly and they can be a bit rough around the edges when communicating in English. First tip: Make sure you ask that everything is included in the price before ordering off the menu in the restaurant! We had a horrific experience with a very rude young male waiter during breakfast. He attempted to charge us for bottled water and a croissant which would not have been a problem had he told us there would be a charge BEFORE ordering. The worst part is that he tried to charge us 95 CZK when you can buy the same bottle outside the hotel for 20CZK. We are seasoned travelers (both Doctors) and were definitely approached in the wrong way. Additionally the charge for the bottle of water was for our first day at the hotel and he was trying to collect two days later. We stayed for a total of 4 nights. Now the Boutique Hotel deserves 4 stars for location and for Nicole (Nico) at the reception. She not only intervened in the restaurant mess with the rude waiter but she was extremely gracious and accommodating with all of our questions. She was by far the friendliest and most professional hospitality individual we came across in our travels in the entire Czech Republic. For her and the location absolutely 4 stars! Overall the experience was positive and we will stay again. The beds could be more comfortable and when arriving by taxi make sure you negotiate the price AHEAD of time. The taxi drivers are notorious for ripping off tourist and we were duped arriving (charged over 600 CZK) from the train station-double the price. Nicole arranged our taxi out and it was perfect and priced correctly. Hotel 4 (because of restaurant server) Nicole 5 and location 5! Wifi worked perfectly, room decorated beautifully, hotel clean and quiet. We had a street facing room so light sleepers ask for a inner room. Lovely-will return!

Room Tip: Choose a room facing inner side-street can be noisy with happy people. Ask about prices and do not a...

Typical hotel of the northern countries, all wood made. very nice room. Everybody very friendly and available to help you. The day of our departure we have been provided with breakfast for the journey. Good placed. i'll suggest it to all my friends coming to Prague.

uggestion: the chance to have breakfast with some extra sweet, as this better reflects the habits of the Italians, thatare not used to eat eggs and cheese in the morning.

Of all the delightful experiences we had on this, our first trip to Prague, the one that truly stands out is that of walking off what is surely the city's most crowded and touristy street into this little haven of a hotel: cozy, comfortable, full of old world character, but with every facility one could reasonably demand. We were received with spontaneous friendliness that altogether matched the warmth of its atmosphere - and which gave a whole new meaning to the word “hospitality”. We are grateful to Michail and the staff for all their excellent work in making our stay such a pleasant one, and for their practical help and advice - but most of all for leaving us with a lasting impression of a warm, friendly, hospitable people.

I have now stayed at this hotel for a 3rd time and it only gets better. The rooms are very comfortable some with traditional Czeck decoration. I tend to book the Imperial suite which is at the top of the hotel and has superb views down to Charles Bridge and up to the castle. It is the full length of the hotel and incorporates a double bed, bathroom, dining area, small kitchen and lounge which has a sofa bed. As it is about 100 metres from Charles bridge it is very quiet and away from the other side of the river and the old town square. It is in an ideal postion to walk to all tourist attractions. The restaurant serves incredible food both at lunch and dinner. I would recommend the goulash soup in the bread, delicious. The breakfast is cooked to order and has a wide range to suit all requirements. The staff speak very good english and are very helpful and friendly. The only down side to this hotel is that there is not lift so if you have any problem with stairs ask for a room on the 1st floor. Otherwise this is the only hotel I stay in when I visit Prague.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the street at the front of the hotel, better views.
