I stayed here twice in two years. Living here just adds so much to the overall experience of Prague. The location of this hostel couldn't be any better, just behind the Old Town Square. I've had a very pleasant experience with the bookings over email and the staff has been very helpful and friendly. They have a lobby with computers, Internet, TV etc.; not that I've ever need to use any of that. The kitchen is well equipped with all the basic requirements.
Toilets are clean. But the toilet paper is rather rough! So please carry your own soft toilet paper rolls!
Well on both occasions, my room was on the 3rd floor. The ceilings are high and they don't have a lift. So it's a bit of a climb up. So please keep that in mind.

I stayed at Hostel Tyn after a very last-minute decision to have a city break in Prague.
I should have thought about it better as I am not accustomed with hostels.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As previously mentioned, this hostel is very close to the Church of Our Lady before Týn (Týnský chrám) on a very narrow alley.
You should receive some directions to there upon reservation.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why average?

The good points of this hostel are mainly its location, and the fact that the rooms are spacious.
But these are things that the hostel management has done nothing for, they were just lucky.

The bad points instead are the fact that, in order to anything in the hostel there are many stairs to be climbed and no lift.
The hostel doesn't offer any meal and the staff isn't incredibly welcoming/helpful to my standards.
Be careful that they don't accept any credit/debit card, only cash.

The wireless connection is truly slow. You're better off using their PCs downstairs.

The hostel doesn't provide you with any maps or useful guides for Prague, only thousands of leaflets from their partners..Disappointing!
The experience will be as ''fun'' as you make it, don't expect anything from the hostel in these terms.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The experience...
I was happy to find an English-speaking Czech who helped me reach the hostel. Then I entered, I left my luggage in the common storage space for few minutes (I'd be careful there, a poor-lit room full of pieces of luggage may tempt many) and then waited for the room to be vacated.

The rooms look good for a hostel, they are warm and indeed there is quite a lot of space.
The two sockets and the lamp near the bed came as useful. So came the locker because I once left some food on the night table and it has disappeared when I got back from the city.

The bed was comfortable..
There is one shower and one toilet on any floor (2/3 rooms).

Ok, the hostel is clean too and they have hot water but that's something I take for granted no matter what!

Room Tip: Try and decide for a lower floor because you'll have to carry your luggage:)

This hostel is located next to the old town square - the hub of tourist activity. It is a bit difficult to reach if you have big bags though..we stayed in a private room with shared bathroom - the room was clean and comfortably sized. No complaints..

I am still lying down on the bed as I type this, wifi although weak, but it is available in the room. Very clean room, clean bathroom and clean common area. Great location near Old Town, virtually no fault with hostel tyn! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: I choose double room

Great location - once you find it, the streets can be a little tricky - and certainly clean. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm, no bunk beds (nice) and a locker, reading lamp and shelf per bed, which makes for a much more pleasant shared room experience.

The staff were neither bad nor fabulous, they were doing their job. The 200k deposit is annoying though as when you leave you're probably heading out of the Czech Republic and are stuck with crowns you don't need.

The wifi isn't great but it's there, and there are free computers for those who need them. The kitchen is terrific - big, clean and well stocked.

I would recommend Hostel Tyn for price, location and cleanliness - the 3 things I look for most. Those wanting a big common area and a social aspect may be a bit disappointed. There is a common room but it's small, and certainly not very busy.

The hostel location is great- just off the Old Town, central in Prague, and close to so many sights and attractions. The directions we got from the hostel guided us safely from the airport to the hostel without knowing a word of Czech. The staff was extremely helpful with checking us in, checking us out, setting up tours, and recommending restaurants and things around the Old Town.

The rooms were spacious and had large lockers and a table in the center. The beds weren't the most comfortable things, but they did their job. There's a shared kitchen in the basement that is very nice, as well as several computers for guests. The bathrooms were shared by the floor and clean. It's a bummer that you have to be in the basement to access the WiFi, but at least they have it. Only complaint is that it's not a social hostel at all- perfect if you're booking a full room for a group, like we did, but not great for travelers looking to make friends in their hostel.

Definitely a good, cheap option for Prague.
