I stayed at Merlin for 4 nights during my latest trip to Prague. The room on the 5th floor was far enough above street level for me to not be bothered by traffic noise, as it's close to a major road. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were reasonably good value; thankfully there's also a lift if you have heavy luggage, though you'll still need to walk up/down a flight of stairs. Merlin is also quite close to the centre of town, being only a short walk along the river to the main tourist attractions, plus there's an entrance to the Karlovo náměstí metro station a few hundred metres south along Gorazdova, and trams are nearby. Overall, I'd recommend it to other travellers, particularly those who aren't too concerned about space, amenities or being smack bang in the centre of Prague.

This hotel was super easy to find with our GPS, easy to access with metro and tram lines, and easy to find your way back after a long day of walking and seeing the sights since the Dancing House is right next door!

We were greeted by a very lovely woman at check in. She was super friendly and gave us maps and advice on where to go and what to see. Very helpful in seeing us to our rooms - next building over - and even changing a room when one group in the party wasn't fully satisfied!

Room was very clean, and very well maintained with a lovely view over the river and castle in the distance. Even though the beds looked like they would not be the most comfortable I've experienced, I was nicely surprised each morning without a back ache :)

A couple of things that kept me from giving it a full 5 dots - First was the fact that our reservation made clear we would have a fridge in the room. This was not the case. It was in the hallway and was shared with other rooms. We used it without problem of anyone messing with or taking our stuff. If the thought of this bothers you, you may want to be sure to ask about the fridge being directly in your room when reserving. I know this is possible as our friends had their own fridge. Secondly, we were located on the 5th floor and we visited on a very hot weekend! We all know heat rises, and a 5 star accommodation would have had a fan in the room for our comfort as soon as we checked in. There are no phones in the room to ring the front desk, so we had to take on 5 flights each way just to ask for a fan. They brought us one that wasn't working properly/at all and assured us that a new one would be in the room by the time we got back from dinner. It wasn't, even though I stopped in the lobby before going up to the room and asked the unfriendly man at the desk. He assured me that he sent one up, and then argued with my brother when he went back downstairs to ask for one so we could sleep with a little more comfort. It took another 35 minutes before they brought one to us. We had one tiny window and a ton of traffic noise. I cannot emphasize enough how loud it was. I am a very heavy sleeper, but between the heat and noise I was woken several times in the night. Fortunately for me I have the ability to fall right back to sleep :)

There is an elevator, it is very small and takes forever. It's there if you need it though which is a rare find! Also, we paid the 200CZK parking fee for street parking and had no problems at all. We parked right outside the front door!

Merlin has excellent location - is close to the Old Town and its easy to get there from both train and bus station.

But if you are looking for a nice relaxing place, good night sleep and sleeping in on your holidays - stay somewhere else. It was really loud! You can hear what people in the next room are talking about.

Close location within walking distance of old town and castle.
Big room with a kitchen so could prepare own meals.
Staff were excellent, friendly, helpful and honest. Late check in was amazing, detailed map & info was excellent & the local pub recommended to us had the best traditional prague Goulash and baked salmon!!
Room was tidy & towels changed daily. Perfect for cheap stay, you do get what you pay for, it's very affordable.
Some feed back would be that hall ways/stairs smelt of cigarette and the room had no safe and a badly damaged door but there are two other main doors to get through so that added extra security.
Two single beds pushed together with a double sheet that was too small so it kept coming off leaving us laying on the dirty mattresses in our sleep, very itchy and uncomfortable, pillows need replacing also. A fitted sheet and better pillows would make a world of difference.
Breakfast was exceptionally bad, some improvements would be: more than 3 bowls, fresh milk thats cold, replace food more often, boiled eggs often seemed off/spoilt, cereals seemed out of date. The atmosphere down in the breakfast room is dugeon like and a bit depressing.
Its easy to make your own breakfast or go out for breakfast.
Overall it is a great budget stay in Prague.
Be aware of the old town square as it is extremely expensive for meals and sadly youll find alot of people eat out of the bins.

This hotel is a short walk for the old town, in a quiet road, with a metro stop 3 block away. The rooms are a refitted apartment building which shows in the ring of keys you will need to keep with you. Beautiful room, with a lean out to see the castle view.

I stayed in the Hotel Merlin in early August while I was in Prague for a conference. Overall I was happy with the Merlin because it was a reasonable price for a reasonable hotel. My room had some new bathroom facilities which were very good. The staff also spoke very good English for which I was thankful, as always. The only drawback was breakfast which was average, though there were a couple of cafes/coffee shops close by to rectify that. The area is just south of the main city, but is still only 10-15 minutes walk to Wenceslas Square. A perfect choice for a traveller who wants a good price and a comfortable night.
