“Lida is spectacular!”
Reviewed June 7, 2008

We just got back and stayed here during all the days we were in Prague. The reviews are absolutely correct - Our room & the common areas are very clean & cozy, it's a few minutes walk from the subway metro & ATMs at banks in one direction and another few minutes walk to a street tram along the river.

The best feature of this place: the hosts Jan and Jiri. They are wonderful people with friendly and helpful personalities. You get maps, transportation passes and even reserve concerts here. Plus, you'll get insider, local information that really does help out if you're looking for a grocery, pharmacy, post office, inexpensive dining & drinking stops.

We give them 5 stars!

We recently stayed at the Guesthouse Lida B & B while travelling in Prague and had a wonderful time. Jiri was extremely helpful in every way whether it was providing currency exchange, metro tickets as well as providing general information about the area. He gave great restraunt recommendations in the nearby area which were much less expensive than those in town. The subway station is just a couple blocks away and getting to the center of town was very easy and safe. Breakfast was very sufficient and a great way to begin the busy day of sightseeing.
We arranged transportation from the airport with Mikes Chaffeaur Service and they were very timely and very fairly priced. The driver was waiting in the arrival area with our name on a sign. He waited patiently while we obtained some currency at the ATM then took us right to the door of our B & B 45 minutes away from the airport. I definitely would recommend the Mike's Chaffeaur Service as well as the Guesthouse Lida for any travel in Prague. Book early as Lida was full every night!

  • Liked — price, internet access, hospitality, breakfast, and easy access to center of town even though in the suburbs
  • Disliked — many rooms only have bathtub

We spent 5 nights at the Lida guesthouse in Mid April 2008, having read the previous reviews and made a decision based on the glowing recommendations, we were delighted that the reality turned out to be far better.

The key difference, and one which made this guest house so exceptional, was not the modern, well designed, spacious, very clean and comfortable en suite room we occupied. Neither was it the wholesome buffet style breakfast provided with a wide selection of foods. What made this guest house stay so enjoyable was the enthusiastic atmosphere that envelopes the house which came from Jan and his wife throughout our stay.

We were met at the airport late evening by Jan and on the drive to the guesthouse, he then gave us a quick education on some of the history and general layout of the city. Prague is an immensely rewarding yet compact and condensed city, once you scratch off the surface which is set for the normal tourist. The city has its own wonderful music and culture; it boasts a significant role in European history and all this in a setting of authentic and well preserved architecture.

Jan is rightly very proud and very enthusiastic about his country, his city and his people and this came across throughout our stay, as with most good hosts he wants you to enjoy your stay and be happy- so nothing is too much trouble for him or his wife. Directions, buying travel cards for the transport system, change, recommendations on concerts or food, internet access and more – as a result everyone we met while we were staying was a happy and contented guest and this made us feel very positive about the stay.

The guesthouse itself is a large residential house with a very innovative modern designed extension to the rear – it is set in a quiet residential area and requires some light walking from the Metro – there are some steps to the front. Into the city centre takes a few minutes only by Metro so we often came back to the house in the afternoon to relax.

All the facilities of the room were very good – it was clean with a comfortable double bed, all fresh towels and linen and quilts. The room furniture was comfortable with loads of storage space and the small TV had several English/German channels. It was quiet throughout our trip no noise from outside and no noise from other guests so sleeping was no problem. The bathroom was better than many 4 star hotels fully tiled and with clever lighting and large mirrors which featured a large screened shower area and there was always hot water available.

In summary it is refreshing to stay somewhere where the hosts take your comfort and enjoyment very seriously and therefore really make an effort to ensure your stay in their city is a truly happy and memorable one.

  • Liked — Great hosts + excellent accomodation + cultured city = happy guests
  • Disliked — We could find no criticism at all for this guesthouse

Most of the other reviews are accurate. Our room was not so nice. The carpeting was torn in places, the room was small, and it lacked some of the fine points found in more expensive places (e.g. Kleenex, smooth sheets changed daily), Jan was very nice, especially giving us advice about transportation into the city center and restaurants. Lida is not walking distance into the city center. You must walk 10-15 minutes downhill to the tram or 5-10 minutes uphill to the metro. Neither is a problem, but be prepared for that. Overall, Lida is worth the price, but next time we go to Prague we'll spend a little more and upgrade a bit.

  • Liked — Price and help provided by Jan.
  • Disliked — Minimal room features, location, condition of room.

All the other review you read are right on - this place is reasonably priced but the best part are the hosts. Jiri was extremely helpful with everything! We had the top floor apartment with our kids - 21, 17 and 10. Just a few mintues walk to either the tram along the river or the metro station. Very easy and cheap to get to any of the major areas in the city.

We just returned from a trip at the Lida House, and it was absolutely wonderful. Jan and Jiri are the perfect hosts, and went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met. A quick 5 minute walk from the metro or tram, it was very easy to get to and from all of the sights in Prague. Upon our arrival, Jiri gave us tea and coffee, and went over the map with us, highlighting points of interest. He also offered to make reservations, or arrange tickets for us for any shows, etc.

The rooms were bright and spacious, and the breakfast layout was fantastic (even for a vegetarian). They provided transfer to the airport, even with an early AM flight.

Highly recommended to anyone traveling to Prague.

The hospitality was wonderful. We were even picked up at the airport late at night, when getting to the lodging would have been very challenging and tiring. Accommodations were spacious and very comfortable. The breakfast was complete and very tasty. The location, though out of the center of Prague was very suburban and quiet, and there are two different ways of getting to the center, each requiring about a 10 minute very safe walk. The Metro also goes directly to the railroad station. The only slight negative was the bathroom. The tub was very nice, but we like to shower. The shower head had no mounting bracket to hang it up, and the tub lacked a shower curtain or door to keep water from getting on the floor. So we had to put extra towels down to sop of the overflow.

  • Disliked — The bathroom showering setup
