This is an excellent way to get an overview of the city of Prague. For a small amount of money you are taken up to the top where there are pleasant gardens with seats both in the shade and the sun. It is possible to climb the many, many steps up to the top of the "Eiffel Tower" but it is well worth it. The views of Prague, the castle, river and bridges, etc. are exceptional.

“All the ups and downs ...”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

This is a good way to get up to Perrin Hill, but hey don't make it easy.

You need change for the ticket machines and you can't buy one at a counter.
Then you are treated to the most miserable group of people in prague that operate the thing. I remember their grumpiness from our last visit two years ago and time and the seasons hasn't mellowed their mood.

I was harangued by a grumpy driver at the summit I think for our 10 year old knocking on the glass to his compartment and waving to him during the ride up - miserable git. Anyway our altercation caused general amusement during the rest of the day, so I guess it has entertainment value supplied for free,

“Long queues, better off walking.”
Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

We got to the funicular station at the base at 11.15am, thinking we would have ample time to get to the top by noon...only to find a massive queue. The station had no info visible to those stuck in the queue regarding tickets, so when we finally got through the door and ushered to the funicular (without tickets) we then lost our place. We asked for return tickets, but beware that they differ depending on how long you spend on petrin hill. The ticket vendor sold us the short return which was very unhelpful when we returned much later in the day, and had to buy new tickets.

Found the trip up the hill underwhelming after the long queue. Save yourself the bother and walk up, and if it's nice views you're after, go up petrin tower.

“An easy way to get to top of Petrin Hill”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

I enjoyed the funicular, but I am inclined to warn potential riders about a situation I have read much about.

We did a lot of reading about Prague and so we were well warned of the existence of dishonest ticket checkers at the funicular. These are rogue officers who seek to enrich themselves by catching tourists who are ignorant of the ticket validation process, and then trying to charge exorbitant fines (which they pocket).

Now, you know. Do make sure that your metro ticket is validated, and if one of these a-holes approaches you, immediately call for metro police.
