This is well worth a look from both the outside and inside even if you are not into Art Deco architechture , you can go on an organised tour of the building or have a meal here , reasonably priced set menu in impressive resturant inside.

The building is currently covered in plastic sheeting which is a pity, as it's being restored. However internally all is well. We left our coats in the cloakroom for the performance and picked them up easily afterwards. We had seats in the 1st balcony which gave us a good view of the orchestra and the stage. The performance of "Carmen" was well worth going to see and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

The theatre is beautiful and atmospheric. We had a box on the first level which had good but not perfect views of the stage. The production was entertaining and very professional, with clever staging and some memorable performances. Mozart in Prague has to be something to savour !

Saw Carmen by Bizet. Though the outside was being remodeled, the inside is quite amazing. I have heard that Prague is becoming expensive, but this is most likely compared to what it used to be. Prague compared to USA prices is hard to beat. We had the best balcony tickets and they came in under $50! Great opera for a great price at a great venue!

It's is known amongst the opera fans that this is the place to see Smetana's opera The Bartered Bride. I've attended over 100 opera performances, mostly at Milan's La Scala and Vienna's Winer Staatsoper, but I must say that the quality of this production is rather good, despite the lack of world-ranked singers. The Bartered Bride is a beautiful opera, very different from the Italian and German operas. This theater is lovely and intimate, the acoustic is good, the seats are comfortable, and the orchestra and chorus were both good. Few things to note for first-timers: 1) leave the coat and big bags at the free coat-check located on every level b/c the seat area is small, 2) the locals still dress up for opera and the theater is well-heated to accommodate the many ladies in strap-less dresses and gowns. I saw local ladies changing their winter boots into slinky evening heels in the coat check area. If you come in jeans and backpack, you will look rather out-of-place, 3) You can pre-book the ticket online and print out the ticket, 4) Given the small size of this theater, even the higher level cheap seats can give you a good view of the stage. Important thing is to book your seat as center as possible, 5) ladies' rooms are clean but the line was quite long.
