We went without a tour. You can have a look at the library rooms through an open door, with it's rows of book shelves and colorful ceiling and wall paintings. They also have preserved animal and shells on display like a hammer shark and a DODO! Those were especially interesting for the kids. There was a shelf with "books" we thought were rotting, but there were actually little boxes made of trees and plants that contained that specific plants "genetic" information as in leaves, seeds, bark, etc. Very cool! Although not speaking English, the older ladies "told" us about books, Dodo, etc. Very friendly and enthusiastic.

The library is one of the most beautiful and impressive places I've ever visited, it is visually ostentatious and steeped in history and drama. For our visit, we were lucky enough to have been given a personal tour by the enthusiastic and knowledgeable library archivist who after unlocking the huge medieval door with a massive key, kindly showed us around both rooms - The Theological hall and The Philosophical Hall - both magnificent! We were taken through a secret wall of fake books to the upper level and shown two books - a visitors book which included the signatures of Lord Nelson, Lady Hamilton and William Hamilton, and an incunable of Caesar's De Bello Gallico. This place is amazing, and was my personal highlight visiting beautiful Prague.

We visited the Monastery after visiting the Castle, and were really pleased we did. Lovely views of the city on the way up, and the two main rooms are superb to look at. Both are immense libraries which you can view from the doorway, although we probably got lucky going on a quiet day so had time to take it all in.

We were amazed by this place, although you could only peek in at it, it was spectacular and amazing to think of what it contained including ancient globes

Our tour group got to go into both libraries and take our time looking around at all the beautiful decor and books. We also were treated to a brief concert by an excellent guitar and flute duo. The sound in the dark wood library was wonderful. The two rooms are contrasting in design yet each is a treasure.
