Owner description: One of the symbols of Prague, the Church of the Virgin Mary Before Tyn is the dominant feature in the Old Town. The church was built in the 14th century and used to be a primary place of worship for foreign merchants visiting the city.

“hard to access”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

Most of this church is blocked off at the ground level by surrounding buildings, and though we tried to get inside three different times during our month-long stay, it was never open. We could peek through the doors but that was it. It looked nice inside but nothing that would take your breath away if you are accustomed to European churches. The spires are pretty iconic to Prague though.

“A truly beautiful church”
Reviewed January 25, 2014

The dark towering spires of this church overlook the Old Town Square, and are beautifully lit at night. Surprising, it is accessed from the square by way of an arcade between buildings in front of it.
But, once inside, the beauty of the building has to be seen to be believed. It is massive, with lofty domes and vaults and stained glass windows which are among the most impressive I have seen. There are many huge black and gold statues, and the amount of gilding on them is astonishing.
Words cannot do it justice, you need to see it to appreciate it.
Highly recommended.

“Just beautiful”
Reviewed January 23, 2014

I lived in Prague for 2.5 years, and still get to visit from time to time - mostly on business. This building remains one of my favourite places in the world - stunning to look at it towering over the medieval square. Well lit-up in the evening allowing some great photos, but the best time to view it is early in the morning (eg 6am) when you can enjoy it without the throngs of tourists around you.

“More impressive from the outside”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

The intricate towers on this church (best viewed from the top of the town hall tower across the square) are more interesting than the inside of the church. It's very dark and there are much more beautiful examples of baroque design elsewhere.
