Owner description: One of the symbols of Prague, the Church of the Virgin Mary Before Tyn is the dominant feature in the Old Town. The church was built in the 14th century and used to be a primary place of worship for foreign merchants visiting the city.

“Nice on the outside but disappointing inside.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

It is almost impossible to find the entrance to this church, which is surprising, as it dominates the skyline of the old town.
The church dates back to the mid 1300's and has a Gothic look to match.
While the church is beautiful on the outside, upon entering it, we were really disappointed as it was poorly lit and looked quite neglected.
To top it all, a no photography policy is strictly enforced – no idea why.

“Beautiful church, worth a look”

Beautiful gothic structure. A nice escape from the crowds of the Old Town Square. Definitely take a look.

“Open but entrance is hard to find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

The main entrance to the church seems temporarily closed; there's a paper sign with an arrow pointing to the right. Where do you enter? We went twice on 2 separate days and almost didn't find the way in.

There are 2 ways to enter the church: through the bookstore near the main entrance (left side of complex) or through an archway in the low buildings in front of the church. On this Google map, look for the red umbrella or the words, "Caffe Italia". http://goo.gl/maps/Py5ge

At night, when the church is illuminated, it is so beautiful! Those dark spires and stone walls, so mysterious. My son asked if it was the inspiration for Hogwart's Castle in the Harry Potter series.

“Couldn't see the inside; it was closed! :(”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Had planned on seeing the inside, as the outside is spectacular, but it was closed! According to the guidebook we had, it should have been open; it was a Tuesday, no reason to be closed. So didn't
