“You get more for your money”
Reviewed April 27, 2008

I picked this hotel because of its price - a little less than 70euro per night, which is as good as it can get for a decent hotel in Prague.

Location - as other fellow travellers have mentioned, the hotel is walking distance (prob around 10min) from the nearest lightrail station which takes you directly into central Prague. We, however, had a car with us, and it took us no more than 10-15 min driving time (no highway, just the main street all the way down) to reach the city center. Traffic was almost non-existent, I am actually jealous of drivers in Prague! Street parking in Prague is not so difficult to find during weekdays (8am-6pm), however the time limit is only 2hrs, which is quite insufficient for tourists and the machines take coins only. Parking lots are not easy to find, so we stopped by a tourist office to find out where those are. The one offering best deal is located under the National Opera(?) and costs about 1.5euro per hour (same price as street parking). Street parking is free and in abundance after 6pm and on weekends.
Hotel parking is tight, but free.
There is a supermarket (Kaufland) right across the lightrail station, where one can get water and munch food (as well as anything else).

Hotel Grounds - Exterior is quite beautiful, manicured grounds, well cut gras, very well kept. Lobby is also pretty nice, but the hotel hallways were pretty old and poorly lit.

Rooms - Our room actually was quite nice (for the money) - pls see pics, has probably been partially renovated a few years ago. Flat screen TV was nice, red colored wall - too. Bathroom and Shower are separate, and quite old - I can bet on 20 yrs, maybe more. Those, however, were cleaned thoroughly, so really not a problem for me (at this price). What was quite disturbing though, was the shower ventilation system, once the light is turned on, the noisiest buzzing you could ever hear fills the room and probably the whole building. Almost like a plane taking off! Seriously.
Our room was overlooking the road, where the hotel is situated - once you open the windows it can get noisy (but the road is not very busy), but if the windows are kept closed - its all fine.
I wish the room had a mini-bar.

Check in - our flight arrived very early and we were at the hotel at 10am. The guy at front desk did not even try to accomodate us - he flatly said we cannot check in until 2pm. This was a bit disappointing, since we had a small baby with us, but as I said, when a hotel charges that much, a slip like that is accepted. My other dealings with front desk were uneventful - the guys working there were very polite and pleasing, and we were even allowed to check out after 1pm (normal time is 12pm)

Amenities - The hotel has a sauna (for a fee), restaurant (which we didnt use) and a gym (free), as well as in-room wireless internet .

All in all, I would stay again in this hotel, I am very happy at the value it offers, its great location and despite the minus-es mentioned, it was a positive experience for our family. I recommend.

Hotel Na Zamecku is a great place to stay! I stayed there with my boyfriend for a week and it was absolutely great! The rooms are clean, very nice. Staff is excellent, friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good. This is the best hotel I have stayed in so far! It is just 25-30 minutes away from the centre, but the transport system is Prague is very excellent, and plus you can book a free-transport service to the centre of the city at the hotel! You have to book a day in advance, there are shuttle buses that runs every 30 minutes more or less from 9 am to 11. We always took the 9.40 bus. Although this hotel is a bit far from the centre I would really suggest you to go there, because it is so beautiful and so quite. And plus in the nearby there is a real Czech pub, where they sell you a cheap and good beer. Have a great time in Prague!

Got off the plan got into a taxi, a company called AAA i was told to use this firm because they don't rip you off because they are on a meter system. I knew the hotel was the other side of the city it cost us 800 Korun about 24 pounds.I yeld to to the driver hit it bob and don't spare the horses. It took about 45 minutes to do a 30 minute journey. This was because the driver didn't know exactly where the hotel was, he didn't speak any English and I didn't speak any cheque? what a pair we were I was laughing at him and he was laughing at me . But with a bit of map pointing and grunting we managed to find it, wooHHOOO.I gave the driver a tip and thanked him for making me laugh and shook his hand. The hotel is nice and clean. We booked with Expedia so all we did was give the bloke the voucher we downloaded and printed out he looked at it and said yep looks good Mr Lewis room127. Room 127 is on the 2nd floor. On the way to the room there were random sofas and chairs to sit down on if you got no friends and like sitting in the middle of no where. Got to the room well presented, I have stayed in many rooms around the world none as good value for money as this one before. Mini bar which you have a sheet of paper and mark down which items you guzzled, simple, take that at the end of your stay to reception and pay up. A desk to white stuff on. A 15inch L.C.D Tv with German movies and CNN!!. The bed to single beds pushed to gether. Make sure if you are doing the wild thing to keep off the middle or someone is going to have a brused back. Bathroom well fitted hairdrier buit in, big mirror tidy sized power shower and the thrown. There was a towel rail as well. It was full of air because we were on the top floor so i used the bottle opener from the minibar to bleed the air out of the heated towel rail. I had to do this with the radaitor in the bed room as well but it was more difficult because the screew bleed nipple was a very fine slot, not even a 1 pence piece would fit so i took the flap off the toilet roll holder, it took a bit of effort to do this but once off i took it over to the rad in the bedroom and out came the air. I fitted the flap back on to th toilet roll holder, and no one was any the wiser. After that every day i would bleed the air out of the towel rail as the towel rail was the highest point of plumbing in the room then we had a nice warm room to back into after being out. Next moring breakfast was a buffet layout. If you are going into town you can book the minibus which you have to book the day before you want to go it is FREE it leaves at 9.40am and comes back aroud 6pm. we used taxis to get into town, which the guy at reception will book for you with a price of 400 K around 12 pounds it can get a bit expensive. Bar closes at around 11pm.
I hope this has been some help. Karl Dinam BoyZ

After so many hours in transit from N. America to eastern Europe , taxi, plane, bus, train- it was with an enormous sigh of relief to arrive at our hotel in Prague...we'd read the reviews about this hotel before booking and they seemed mixed. Out of 39 nights in Eastern Europe, this hotel was the best by far. Yes, it is a half an hour away from the city centre but the price is very reasonable for the quality you get and transit options are many. It is cheap to get around on the 24-72 hour transit passes and the bus drops you off at the door of the hotel. If you have a
car this does not present a problem as there is ample parking. The breakfast is varied and plentiful, the staff are helpful and the room was clean ( not too common on our travels), the towels fluffy and the beds both comfortable and big enough for two people instead of the common practise of twin beds in so many other hotels. If you book on-line the price is the best bargain we found anywhere.

my wife and i stayed at the hotel na zamecku for three nights ending sep 24th.
we found the hotel very clean, the staff friendly & helpful, the breakfast satisfactory and the one night we had dinner at the hotel it was first class.
though the hotel is out of town,we found the location very pleasant & relaxing.

the public transport system in prague is excellent and very reasonably priced, and easy to get around.

with abus stop right outside the hotel connecting directly to the metro system, access to the city centre was quick and easy

i will definately stay there again

We booked our hotel along with our flights through Expedia and were in Prague for 7 days in late September to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We knew from the description on Expedia that this hotel was in Prague 10 and out of the city centre but we weren't really bothered as it sounded nice (4 star rating) and was the right price for us. We arranged for a Prague Airport Shuttle driver to pick us up and take us there which was grwat because he really gave us some good tips and a great map. When we arrived the hotel looked like it did in its pictures. Nothing too swanky, but clean and well presented...sort of traditional lookng. all the staff spoke excellent english and were really nice to us. One guy gave us a great tip on a restaurant that we absolutely loved! The room itself was pretty big if basic. The beds were as we expected (after doing ample research)...two single beds pushed together with firm mattresses and small thin pillows (again not great but not bad either as we are not too bothered about that).

The hotel restaurant was excellent...def the highlight of the place...they have an organic farm (big draw for us) and the steak was the best steak I have ever had! The veggies were delicious too and we had two great meals there.

As far as transport, here is the main negatives for the place...its a bus ride to a metro stop to get to the city centre. Now the travel time is maybe 30 mins (usual wait was 5 minutes and then like 2 mins for the metro). This is ok for those nights when you have had a long day and want to get back in early (the last bus runs around 11:50ish)...but for those odd nights when we were out and about having fun and wanted to stay out maybe a little later it was no good. Sure you could get a taxi but it would be pretty expensive (at least for us). So while we enjoyed the place, next time we will def stay closer in the city so that we dont feel constrained by time.

Overall, loved Prague and can't wait to go back!!

We spent a week at the Hotel Na Zamecku in Prague during late September 2004.
The hotel was good, a little basic but the room was clean and spacious enough for two. The room was cleaned everyday, my only complaint would be that the bathroom was a little tatty and very small, it could do with some refurbishment. The main clientele were large tour groups of aging Europeans, often Italian, whose buses were parked in the car park most days.
The staff were excellent, polite and courteous and spoke English beautifully. We ate in the restaurant on the first night there and found the food to be great and very reasonably priced. A meal for two, with drinks came to around £12. Breakfast was included and had a selection of breads, cold meats, preserves, yoghurts, fruit juice and hot drinks. On one occasion there was a breakfast meeting taking place at the hotel so the breakfast room was closed but we were seated in the dining room and staff brought a good selection of breakfast items to our table there.
The hotel is far from the centre. On average it took around 45 minutes to get into the centre of Prague so we only returned to the hotel on one day during the day. This didn't bother us too much as we were happy staying out from around 10am in the morning through to around 11pm at night but please bear this in mind if you like going back to the hotel during the day. It is simple enough to get into town, a 5 minute walk to the bus stop then a 5-10 minute bus ride to the Dejvicka Metro Station and then a 20 minute ride into town. The metro is excellent, efficient, clean and cheap. Dejvicka is on one of the main lines which will take you straight through to Starometska - near to Old Town Square. It is worth buying a week pass which costs around £5 for unlimited travel on buses, trams and the metro. On arrival we took a taxi to the hotel and the driver was unfamiliar with the hotel but he was very pleasant and gave us quite a guided tour on the way, he found the hotel and the taxi journey cost around £25 and took about 45 minutes. If you do the same you can buy your first travel ticket at the hotel reception to enable you to get to the metro station and buy a weekly pass.
