“A wonderful hostel to stay in”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Sir Toby's is the best hostel in the best condition I've ever stayed in. Everything looks new, modern, and immaculately maintained. Plus the desk staff were fantastically helpful in making my stay in the place and a visit in Prague a wonderful experience. I stayed 2 nights, May 4 and 5 in a very roomy double room w/ ensuite on the 4th floor. Very clean and slept well because it was quite nights. The buffet breakfast in the bottom floor lounge was good value for the little extra cost. Sir Toby's is distant from the city centre though and that may be a drawback for some travelers. For me it was a perfect base from which to visit the zoo close by for a day before flying home. Good restaurants nearby as well, like the Czech sport bar around the main corner ( U Korbal?).

The hostel was really sweet and cosy, the rooms were big and had a lot of security (for your bags-if they fit, and a small box). The rooms had a small table in the middle and a sink (great when it's too cold to talk to the bathroom, to brush your teeth)

The staff are super friendly as helpful! Great fun to go out with as well!

The location is a little further out of the city, but It doesn't hurt to walk.

Downstairs they have a small courtyard and a cool bar area. The kitchen is huge, only town side is there isn't much ventilation when a heap of people are cooking all at once!

If I'm back in Prauge i'll defiantly hit this place up again!

The hostel was fantastic. The staff were friendly and engaging and were more than happy to help with advice and suggestions. The map they have us ended up being very helpful on more than one occasion. It's a bit far away from the centre of town but it takes 10mins in a taxi. The bar downstairs was nice and a good place to meet fellow travellers. The breakfast is also basic, but good. Ingrediants are provided for omelettes and pancakes, however most of the kids didn't have a clue how to make them!

A few warnings and negitive points of Prague: Beware of dodgy taxi drivers. They're more than happy to rob you! Always agree a fee before you get in. It's costs around 200 to get to town and about 600 to get to the airport. Shops will also try and rip you off. Ask for a price if it's not ticketed. A shopkeeper tried to charge a member of my group £12 for 2 bottles of lucozade! They take advantage of you of you don't know the currency.

Prague is a lovely place, however I doubt I will ever go back because of a few dodgy locals who seem to be happy to rip you off while the tourists are there!

Sir toby's is a great base to explore prague. The reception staff are very helpful and provide you with a detailed map including which trams, metros or buses are best depending on what you want to see. They also provide a transport pass which you can rent for as long as you need which is very helpful. There is a lift to floor 3 then you need to take the stairs to floor 4 and 5, alternatively you can take the stairs the whole way up. The rooms are big and have plenty of space for your belongings. there is also a rollout bix under the bed to store materials. However if you have a backpack or suitcase it probably wont fit under the bed. Beds are clean, comfortable and.linen included (towel is not)

In the basement their is a laundry (walk down stairs and on right), communal area with tables and kitchen (left hand side). I loved being able to cook whatever i wanted, have a cup of tea or coffee after a cold day walking the city or meeting some other people for a chat over cooking dinner. There is a fridge to store small amounts of food just make sure it is named. Best supermarket is down the end of the street, just go out sir toby's and too the left. Supermarket is at the end of the street on the left hand side (approx. 400m).

The only down side to the kitchen is the lighting. There are two light which is great for ambience but i found it difficult to see what i was cooking. There are also two sets of hot plates so you may have to wait.

This place rocks. All of the staff I interacted with and also observed were very very friendly and helpful with directions and tips were to sight see. The atmosphere all around is very comfortable. The basement is very inviting, roomy, and a great place to socialize with other travelers. At first appearance I was thinking, sort of out of the way, but it turns out not to be the case, many produce stores and eateries within short walking, and the tram lines to go anywhere, are just a block away. They offer a "rent a Pass" for the unlimited trams at a very good daily rate, and also sell a 1 hour pass along with great directions for the final trip to the train or bus station, I took the train. The all you can eat breakfast is priced at about 6 us dollars and unlimited coffee, what a bargain. The night time activities are a great plus, movie night, game night ect. the beds were very clean and comfortable. Did not get to use the patio as it was snowing. There are bikes you can rent at a great price too. I recommend this place, good time indeed.

Room Tip: I stayed in 2 different shared rooms..1 mixed upstairs (the shower pressure was great) and 1 male on...

I decided on a whim to go away for the recent Easter weekend and picked Sir Toby's somewhat at random. I wasn't disappointed!

I'll skip over the location thing as that's been mentioned before - yes it IS a bit further out but a 10 minute tram is no biggie! What was immediately noticeable is the level of attention each and every guest is given upon checking in. I was given a detailed map of their own design which was then discussed and illustrated further with transport routes, places of interest, things to see, great bars, and all manner of other niceities. Such a nice change!

Little to add on the hostel, facilities, room etc apart from that it was all very clean and very comfortable. The pub in the cellar is probably the best common area of any hostel that I've stayed in yet. There's a great social atmosphere and as a solo traveller, this is always a deciding factor for me. In fact, of the 4 evenings I was there I only ventured beyond the pub on one of them - whether that's me being lazy or testament to how much I enjoyed the pub atmosphere is up to you to decide!

In short, if you can put up with the slightly further out location (which was hardly an issue for me!) then you could do a whole lot worse than stay here...
