Clean and tidy with a sizable breakfast, which could be used for lunch as well. The place is on the 5th floor of an apartment blocks, which is a bit of a heave with a big suitcase although there is a lift. The location, just on the edge of Josefov, is an easy walking distance from nearly everything this side of the river.
However, the shower in our room wouldn't stay on the wall and wasn't fixed despite telling the lady on duty (we were there for three days). Also, the noise of the next rooms bathroom could wake me ( a light-sleeper) but didn't bother my girlfriend (who isn't).

We travelled with two children and stayed two nights. We had an apartment and this is a large and well equipped room (with a mix of old and new furniture). The hotel is at 5 minutes walk from the big square

The hotel is worth the money and you get where you pay for

This pension is big part of why I am going to return to Prague... Value for money, great location, clean and comfy accommodation with good breakfast, what else do you need? The main reason we chose to book this accommodation is it's proximity to the Old Town and the price is cheaper than all other accommodations in the area. We stayed at the Art Deco apartment on the third floor and didn't expect much for the price we paid for it. We arrived at midnight so we have been informed beforehand that there is no reception but instructions on how to show ourselves in were very clear and easy to understand. The pension was 2 train stops away from the Florenc bus station and was fairly easy to find as long as you figure out which direction to take after getting out of the underground. This took awhile for us as we couldn't find the street signs. Once we found the pension and got the keys, we proceeded down the hall (a bit dark and spooky) to go up the building in an ancient elevator (scary but really cool). The apartment is not 5* material but it was big, clean and had everything you really need. There were towels (which was a godsend after staying in a hostel in Munich which didn't provide them), a little bar of soap for each of us and little chocolates on the bed. Since we were in the apartment, breakfast was left for us in the fridge. There was more than enough for the 4 of us! We were instructed to make the payment at reception the following morning but they neglected to tell us that the apartment key is the same key we use to open the door to the reception area on the 5th flr which left us standing outside the door trying to figure out if someone was in for about 15 mins... The person at reception was helpful enough but not really the friendly type. We asked if we can borrow an iron but they had none available. When we came back to the apartment after a day out we were surprised that not only have the fridge been replenished, an iron has been left for us on the table! No wifi in the apartment but internet (quite good connection) is available if you have a laptop to plug the internet cable in. The pension is also near the Palladium mall. The shuttle service to the international airport is also only a 10 minute walk.

The reception is almost non existence. All the hotel guests have to do is just to get the room key from a small little pigeon hole at the entrance. Go to your room, open the door and that's it. There will be a lady that comes every morning to serve you full English breakkie. I love the breakfast. You pay her the daily room charges until you check out. Very unique but quite an experience. Room pretty small with twin bed. Small bathroom but complete with head shower and separate cubicle. Ancient elevator in a typical former Russian state. Not a problem for me

We selected this Pension due to its proximity to the Old Town and the price. We did not realize until after booking that there is no staff to open the door, welcome you and show you the place except from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You have to figure out how to get the keys, use the ancient elevator, figure out Wi-Fi and find your room - all by yourself. An unusual - inhospitable - way to treat your paying guests. The room and bathroom are very basic. Breakfast is basic as well. I would not recommend this place.

The platan seems to be serviced rooms with no staff available from about 14:00. The rooms are on the fifth floor in a run down building but this is quite common for prague.
its about 100m from the river and about 5 min walk from the Powder Tower/Old Town Square.

The rooms are basic but clean and are fine if you're not going to spend anytime in them. The beds are not very comfortable but i've slept in worse, the breakfast is given to you on a tray to eat in your room between 8 and 10. It consisted of half a loaf, cheese, chocolate spread and a wafer bar. There was a fridge in the room but is wasnt plugged in but that didnt bother us. The bathroom was large and the shower was fine with the small exception of not being able to stand under it as it was broken as mentioned in another review so either all rooms are like this or they havent bothered to get it fixed.

The only downside to the platan was the fact the reception wasnt manned during the day. We arrived on a Sunday about 14:30 unable to even get into the building. There are two wall safes by they door which you need to enter a code that the hotel email you the day before to get the outer door and room key. This wouldnt have been a problem if we had known and looked out for the code but we didnt. Not the hotels fault as they did email us the code but there should have been a emergency contact. There was a intercom to speak to the Platan but no one was working so what good is a intercom. Either it was because it was a sunday or because they had finished for the day. someone from the hotel rang us with the code 90 min after arriving but only after a 25 min phone call to expedia for them to try and get hold of someone. There are a number of bars within 1 min walking distance so all wasnt lost.

The wifi is free but not the strongest in the room but couldnt complain.

All in all i would stay here again but would make sure that i had the safe code before travelling as everything after that was fine.

Despite what others have said here - there IS a lift up to the 5th floor thankfully!!!!
Its very old and very rickety and only takes a maximum of 3 people but it works fine.
As for the Pension itself, it was spotlessly clean and warm - especially welcome seeing as it was -18 outside when we arrived.
The beds furniture and decor have seen better days and some of the bed linen was pretty worn looking. But to be honest, we got what we paid for and have no complaints.
Would have been nice to have a shower head you could stand under as well.
All in all though its in a great location, the staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast was a nice tasty way to start the day.
