U Medvidku is a charming little hotel right in the centre of Prague that is very reasonable for its quality. Friendly staff, wifi, nice beer hall with czech food downstairs and charming rooms that feel authentic and old school. Rumor has it that Mozart used to drink at the beer hall downstairs back in the old days, so definitely worth a visit. I will stay here again....

Simple but very friendly hotel, very professional, very nice and helpful staff, and a good location to discover the Old Town. The first evening I tried the restaurant, and then returned every evening to eat there / good food, good beer, very friendly service and a natural atmosphere even with a lot of tourists there. The prices are very fair. For my next stay here, I will surely come back.

I always want to find smaller hotels with character rather than stay at the large, sterile chains. If nothing else, U Medvidku definitely has character!

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the location on the outskirts of the Old Town was very good. The cost was also good, and definitely in-line with similar hotels in Prague.

The room was big and comfortable, although I will echo some of the other reviewers in saying that a hotel that bills itself as 4-star needs to pay a bit more attention to the standards of similar hotels in other parts of Europe (in Germany this hotel would rank only 3-stars simply due to the fittings and luxury).

The attached restaurant is good, and worth a meal, but the highlight is the small-batch beers offered in the brewery itself. The unfiltered beers are a highlight!

One of the best things you have with this hotel, however, is the easy walk to everything in Old Town. The huge variety of tourist sights, restaurants, bars, cafes, and just general people watching is all within a 10 minute walk (20 to the Mala Strana side of the of the river). Prague is a city absolutely perfect for walking and exploring, and this hotel does make a good base for this - it is far enough off the main square to be quieter, but close enough to get there quickly.

The breakfast buffet is stocked with the standard central European options (bread, meat, cheese, eggs, etc...) and is both good, and a great way to fuel yourself for a day of exploring Prague.

Room Tip: The hotel does face a very busy street, so ask for a room in the back

This place has been one of my favourite restaurant/bars for over 10 years, although this is the first time I have actually stayed there.

The rooms were OK although the bathroom really was not up to scratch. If you were over 3 Feet tall the bath was too short and the shower way too low.

The water temperature fluctuated widely meaning one second it was comfortable and the next it could be far too hot or cold.

We had problems with the toilet which took 2 days to eventually fix.

Free WiFi was a good idea, although the signal simply was not strong enough leading to frequent disconnections.

However, these were relatively minor gripes compared to the level of service we received.

In the past the restaurant had quirky, but friendly and attentive staff. Last year when I visited this seemed to be less so. This year, despite actually staying in the hotel, the service was awful.

We could not reserve a table for the evening until we made the point we were actually staying in the hotel.

When we had dinner with a number of my Czech friends, only they could get served - when we asked the restaurant manager if we could get a drink for a newly arrived dinner guest he simply said no.

Sadly, after this experience and over 10 years of custom, I shall be giving U Medviku a miss the next time I visit.

A great shame, as this was once such a quirky and friendly place to frequent.

We stayed here for 3 nights after a trip to Austria. Huge windows, nice bathroom, comfortable bed, LCD TV, and great wireless internet. The connected brewery and restaurant served fantastic traditional Czech food plus some very good beer (try the stinky beer cheese.) The location was about a block from the #9 tram line, and a few blocks from the old town, Charles Bridge, and Wenceslas Square. A good choice for travelers without a car.
