“Very nice stay, but best to upgrade room”
Reviewed August 13, 2013 via mobile

We read the previous reviews and decided to upgrade to an executive room, and were very glad we did. However, we were first shown to room 124, which looked out onto a wall, which a previous reviewer noted. The room was long with a couch and seating area but the bed was too large for the room, and one person could not actually get in and out of bed from one side. We immediately asked to change rooms and without any hesitation were allocated room 414, which was at the front of the hotel, large, light and airy. We were very happy with this room.

The staff are what make this hotel special! They are all without a doubt professional, helpful and pleasant. They all speak English very well and cannot do enough to help. We booked their driver to take us on an excursion which was also fantastic.

The location is good and within easy walking dupistance of the old town and republic square where we found the restaurants at the Municipal Hall to be out of this world!

We will definitely return to Prague again and will stay at this hotel as we felt you can't go wrong for the price.

Stayed here with my son. Prague was experiencing a heat wave so the efficient air-conditioning was most welcome. The public areas, especially the dining room, were magnificent. The bedroom was similar in size to this standard of hotel but there were additional features e.g. a separate bath and shower, underfloor heating in the bathroom, which gave it the edge. The staff were efficient and some most helpful. Breakfasts were as you would expect from a hotel catering to the tourist trade with a range of food to suit most tastes. It is well located for the historic city as long as you are mobile.

We stayed here for 4 nights this week. So, on the positive side: the staff are friendly and helpful, concierge amazing, the standard rooms big enough ( although not spacious ) and silent at night, we had 519, air con kept things cool in a heat wave - although a bit noisy to leave on whilst sleeping. The decor of some public areas and cafe are amazing. The location is central and away from tourist hoards. On the negative, although the decor is historic it wasn't really our taste and room features such as heavy dark wood doors, swirly carpets and green marble bathrooms did not give a classy 5 star feel feel to the place. The first room we were allocated had a view directly onto a concrete wall and was very gloomy. We were quickly reallocated a better room after speaking to reception which was lighter and a little bigger. Our bed was soft and the pillows and linen did not feel of a good quality. The iron was poor. The breakfast buffet has a lot of choice but after 10 am this is not replenished and some foods were not of a high enough standard. I got the feeling they want you down there early so they can get sorted for non guest customers to occupy the tables. The hotel bar is a dismal affair tucked away at the back of the check in area and not well decorated. We would have liked to enjoy a pre dinner drink of an evening but this was not the place at all - hotel de Paris around the corner shows how this should be done and what guests expect from a high end place. So all in all its a mix. We got a good room rate through our flight package so generally happy but I would have not wanted to pay the advertised rate for the experience we had.

We just got back from a delightful weeklong stay at the Art Deco hotel. I honestly can't think of a single complaint. Our room was great - we had booked an Executive room and it was spacious (with two bathrooms even), had a tub and shower, and most importantly the A/C worked (it was in the 90s most of our trip so unseasonably warm...and most European hotels' A/C would have buckled under the pressure).

We used their car service to get to and from the airport, which was prompt and hassle free.

We had breakfast (included with the room) almost every morning and loved the variety.

We ate at the hotel's restaurant three times and had delicious meals every time. The waitstaff was incredibly helpful and pleasant. Heck, the staff everywhere at the hotel was pleasant - from the Prime Bar to the Front desk to the Concierge...helpful, friendly and personable to the last.

Highly recommended and would stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed in 521, which was great because it shares no walls with any other room. Didn't hear a...

I must have gotten a room that no other TA travelers stayed in. While the overall hotel is lovely, my room was what I would call "worn". First, the pros: really great location, easy walk to everything, and if you don't want to walk, you have several trams and the metro very close by; breakfast was fabulous -plentiful options, very fresh, happy and professional staff and the décor of the café is something else. Now the cons: yes, European beds are often very different from what we expect in the US, and having lived and traveled extensively in Europe I'm prepared to adjust, but ours was so old and used that my hips were sore from laying on my side-terribly uncomfortable-we woke up with back pain every morning; the a/c-again, American expectations are very different in this regard, but it was all but non-existent; room décor was worn and just didn't feel clean-the carpet had clearly not been properly cleaned in quite some time. I accidentally dropped something on the bathroom floor and it rolled under the vanity area. As I picked the item up, I also picked up clumps of long, black hair, dirt and dust. Keep in mind there is about a foot and a half clearance between the bottom of the vanity and the floor-more than enough to get a mop under there. And we both have very short brown hair for the record so the hair wasn't ours. We always tip the housekeeper every day and while towels and bath amenities were always restocked, and the sheets were changed when requested, the room felt used and dirty. It's unfortunate because every staff person we interacted with was very pleasant and helpful and overall we enjoyed our stay.

What a lovely hotel, beautifully decorated and the service, food and locality were excellent. Unfortunately the room we had on our river cruise extension was a cupboard and the air con was typical European rubbish. The bed was comfortable but the window faced 4 walls no more than 5mts away so little light. Fellow travelers said their rooms were nice and refurbished so its luck again.

Room Tip: Obviously some rooms are much better than others and although warned about rooms in Europe being sma...
