“A real gem in an amazing city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2012

I found this hotel based on other glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, and was not disappointed in the slightest. Beautiful, clean, spacious rooms, a delicious breakfast every morning, and unbelievably polite, well-spoken and knowledgable staff made our stay extremely pleasant. This lovely hotel is also very centrally situated, without being on any main roads, thus no traffic noises to disturb ones sleep. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, and will not hesitate to stay here again. In fact, I can't wait to stay here again!

We last posted a review of Hotel 16 in 2009 and, for a variety of reasons, we had not been back to Prague since then. We had no hesitation in returning to Hotel 16 and found it just as good as before. Staff have moved on but those who have replaced them are as helpful as ever. It's a small hotel and you always feel that you are treated as an individual. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are excellently appointed, very well maintained and always spotless. This time we had Room 12 which opens directly on to the tree shaded back garden where the sound of bird song completes the sense of a restful oasis. This is not quite what you expect when you first walk down Katerinska but once through the door of the hotel all is peace. Breakfast is up to the best standards with lots of choice. The location is not completely central but there are good tram and metro links to all the places you are likely to want to visit and Wenceslas Sqaure is only an eight minute walk away. For the first time we were not aware of pickpockets on the trams so maybe the police have at last decided to sort this out though it's probably best to be careful, as in most cities.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back

Our relatively spacious room was clean and beautifully appointed with rich, dark wood. However, our stay was made very special by the excellent care and service we received from Adam, the concierge.

Adam arranged for us to park our car in one of only two of the hotel's secured parking places, behind a locked gate. In the morning, Adam personally ensured that every item at the extensive breakfast buffet was fresh and in ample supply. He prepared fresh cappuccino, espresso, or regular coffee for us at our requests. He supplied us with a map of the city - including his detailed directions, obtained church service times via the internet, sold us metro tickets, and exchanged money for us at a favorable rate (the hotel accepts Euros, local currency, credit cards, and US dollars). This gentleman's multilingual skills are extremely helpful. Adam summoned a taxi for us, from a trusted operator (be careful, the integrity of the taxi drivers' can be questionable), and told us what the fare would be before we accepted the ride. His affable personality and willingness to go out of his way to serve guests is extraordinary. He even watched our luggage for us while we went sight seeing for the afternoon AFTER we had been officially checked-out of the hotel for seven hours and then sent us our way with coffee and a snack! Now that is exceptional service!

Room Tip: Call ahead to request one of two secure parking spaces the hotel has behind a locked gate.

This was definitely one of the best hotels that I have ever stayed in. It was exceptionally clean, was in a great location, and the staff were always very friendly and incredibly helpful.

Only spent one night here on our Biking trip around Europe, but arguably the most welcoming hotel and staff on our 10 days away. Great to be welcomed with a cup of tea before we registered and unloaded our gear. Guys behind the reception were a 'top team'. Hotel is clean, comfortable and excellent value. A short walk into town of no more than 2 minutes. Great breakfast. Parking isn't available at the hotel which means a 5 minute drive and walk back, but that can't take away from the overall excellent experience. Well done Gents.

I led a class summer trip to Prague, and we stayed at Hotel 16 for 17 nights. We had an amazing experience during our entire stay. Michal runs an excellent independent hotel, and all of his employees are wonderfully friendly, helpful and kind. The breakfast is bountiful, the location of the hotel is perfect in its accessibility to the main parts of town and the river, but it is also quiet. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Prague.

We stayed for 7 nights in one of the suites in the back of the building on the 2nd floor. Pros: impeccably clean, modern and strikingly decorated rooms; excellent hot breakfast with eggs cooked exactly as desired; comfortable bed and large room; good lighting and ventilation (no A/C, but cool in the evenings with windows open even on hot days); large in-suite bathroom with good sized shower; super responsive and helpful hotel staff (be sure to take Michal's recommendations for restaurants); hot tea brought to your room at any hour; first minibar we've ever encountered with reasonable prices; reasonably priced laundry service; free worldwide phone at front desk; free wifi in room; free internet computer/printer in breakfast room; four closets will hold all your clothing and then some; nice sitting area separated from the bedroom (not with a door, but 20 feet away). On a quiet street in New Town, one block from the most useful tram (#22), three blocks from the metro, 1 block from Pivovarsky Dum (one of the best microbreweries), 1/2 block from the fine restaurant U Emy Destinnové (named for Emmy Destinn, one of the great sopranos of the early 20th century who was born in that building). 24 hr. food/liquor shop at the metro stop. And 1/3 the price of the Hilton where we stayed last year in an inferior room with indifferent concierge service. All this in one of the most magical cities of the world. Get there before the rest of the world discovers it, and the prices for hotels, restaurants and tourist sights double.
