“Scenic location, fabulous service, terrific breakfast...you must stay here!j”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

In all of our travels our absolute favourite hotel! Location is perfect, just below the castle with scenic views from their famous restaurant and their breakfast room, fantastic! Special hotel access to the castle is a bonus! Now the details, terrific boutique rooms - not opulent but large and nicely appointed. Service starts with your arrival with welcome drink, tour of the hotel, and to discuss your visit in Prague and if they can be of assistance to you, whether tours, taxis, etc. Nothing is too small to ask, from an extra bed sheet or particular variation on your breakfast, your wishes are delivered. Daily they offer a free happy hour between four and six with wine, juice, water and beautiful hors d'oeuvres as well as a tasty sweet dessert treat with their turn down service. We celebrated a special anniversary and upon our arrival champagne, fruits and chocolate. That evening we were also surprised with a delicious chocolate mousse torte which was divine. Simon, Lenka and the lovely blonde woman in the breakfast room (my apologies for not noting your name) and all others, their goal is to make your stay memorable and indeed they do! The breakfast is a fabulous buffet with a lovely variety of the usual breakfast items including their famous homemade yogurt. You can also order breakfast from the menu cooked to order, any combination you wish as well as a sweet menu...waffles, pancakes, so many choices! We used their limo airport service both ways which was very prompt and professional. The location is very central even though it is just below the castle, it only takes a 10-15 minute walk to the Charles Bridge. Now all this and at a reasonable cost, why on earth would you stay anywhere else?

Room Tip: Their website has a room layout map which you can see the different sizes and layouts. We requeste...

We stayed four nights at the beginning of our trip at the Golden Well, and from the moment we arrived we felt at home. We had arranged for an airport pick-up, and found the hotel down a tiny street off a leafy square. We walked the last several yards on a cobblestone lane to our welcome in reception.

The hotel itself is made up of four houses with a courtyard in between (the restaurant is the fifth house), so as you go from reception to first floor to your room, it's a meandering path. There is an elevator to the restaurant off of one of the entry ways, but rooms are not accessible by restaurant guests - you need a card key to get off at the intervening floors. When I looked at the room layouts online, I was trying to figure out if the rooms are below the restaurant, but they're not - the restaurant is above them and set back (see photos below). There is a gate from the restaurant to the castle grounds, which we did not use but could be very helpful.

We had room 25, the John Dee room, with views of the city and gardens. As we entered, there was a bathroom with tub/shower (wonderful rain shower head) to the right, a little entry vestibule with closet, and the bedroom straight ahead. Lighting for reading in bed was good. We were given a welcome tray of fruit and wine, and each night, a different sweet under a glass dome.

I wanted to add that there was a window in the bathroom with a shutter overlooking the courtyard. These are historical residences and I think that the exteriors could not be altered. However, this was absolutely NO problem, as it shut tightly and we never heard or saw anyone in the hall/courtyard, and only one room's occupants had to pass our room.

We elected to eat every morning in the hotel's restaurant - if booked ahead it was 15E - and it was a wonderful way to start the day, and we thought well worth it! The buffet with breads, meats, cheese, homemade yogurt, cakes, juices and cappuccino was supplemented with made-to-order egg dishes...and after all of that, we were offered "a sweet course" of griddlecakes with blueberries. We'd have rolled down the hill if we had accepted, so we passed. Just to sit there and look out over the city was so relaxing and refreshing that we were reluctant to leave and tour Prague. All of the servers were so nice, but we looked forward to chatting with Oksana, from Ukraine, each day (her countryman Alexander helped with our luggage, and I believe it was Radek who helped on our first day - but everyone was friendly). We elected to have dinner there one night and it was great, outside under heat lamps.

We thought that the location was wonderful, with easy access to the castle (by tram, the long way around then downhill) and the Old Town via the Charles Bridge. We walked to several restaurants, in particular Heregtova Cihelna, which was fabulous.

Staying there was just wonderful - it was probably our favorite hotel of the trip - and if we return to Prague, we will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Take a look at the website (under Rooms, then Room Layouts). We had a good room, #25, the John Dee...

If you are considering this hotel then just do yourself a favour and book it. We stayed for 3 nights and felt like we were royalty by the way the staff looked after us. The Hotel is tucked away in a very quiet lane just a few minutes from the Castle, trams, restaurants, shops and of course the Charles Bridge.
I have never stayed at a hotel where all i wanted to do was book a return trip the minute I got to the airport however this place has done just that.
if you get the chance you have to eat at the award winning restaurant as I enjoyed a fantastic meal with my wife but be advised to book ahead as when we was there it was fully booked which speaks volumes. Also the breakfast was a fine dining experience we only wish we had nothing planned for the day as we would have liked to spent longer enjoying the food and views.

We had read excellent reviews of the Golden Well, but even these had not prepared us for the warmth of the staff. The smiling doorman was waiting in the lane to take our luggage on our arrival, The friendly young man who checked us in gave us a private tour of the hotel, its facilities and our room. The rooftop restaurant (stunning views) demonstrated why it is rated as the best in Prague. The girls in the breakfast room were delightfully persuasive and the staff at the front desk were constantly pro-actively helpful. The hotel consists of three older houses very artfully combined to create rooms with a feeling of elegance and intimacy. Not that our room was small. it was entered by a separate entry room, complete with desk and I pad, the bedroom was delightfully furnished with some antique furniture, while the bathroom contained an enormous bath. This is a small, elegantly luxurious hotel, where.guests are pampered - and befriended.

Room Tip: We only saw two rooms, our room, a deluxe on the third floor, and that of our friend on the first, a...

Beautiful hotel with wonderfully attentive staff. The welcome drink in the the restaurant with stunning views was just the start. Complimentary drinks and nibbles between 4-6 are amazing and much needed after a day of sightseeing. The evening turn down with late night desert left by your bed is another sign of detail. They forgot to do ours one night and when we mentioned it to reception they were very sorry. This was enough for us, however, that evening we were given a full romantic turndown - rose petals on bed, scented candle, sparkling wine and strawberries and a note apologizing again. These touches are what makes this hotel the best place I have stayed in Europe. Can't wait to visit again, and again, and again.

Room Tip: Room 36 had beautiful views over gardens up to the palace and over rooftops.

From the moment of my booking this, I could tell this was a great hotel. I had wanted a driver to pick us up at airport and the hotel was quick to reply to my email requests. Once we arrived at the end of the street near the hotel (The driver could not pull all the way up the small alley to the hotel), we were greeted by a bellman who quickly took our luggage and introduced us to the on-duty manager. The manager took approx. 30 minutes to show us completely around the hotel, including time on their rooftop restaurant that overlooks the city for a quick "welcome drink". Our room was super comfortable, and upon checking in, we had wine, fruit and cheeses waiting in our room for us. We loved that it was connected to the Prague Castle and you could take a short cut from the rooftop to the castle grounds. We ended up walking almost everywhere from the hotel to Charles Bridge, etc...but we did have the hotel hire us a car to take us out to the countryside (including Bone Church) and even that was reasonable for a6 hour car hire. We would not hesitate to stay there again, and I highly recommend it. (we stayed in May of 2011)

This is our second trip to Prague and a stay at the Golden Well. We will not stay at any other hotel. This little gem of a hotel makes you feel like royalty. Nothing is too difficult for the staff. Ask once and it is done. The hotel is impecable. The" little niceties" are apparent in the late night desserts left in your room. The 4-6PM refreshment times are appreciated after a day long exploration of Prague.
Location to Old Town and resturants was great. Why stay anywhere else when you can experience the "best of Prague" at the Golden Well
