Fantastic location, we were able to walk to every major tourist attraction. Personal espresso machine in room was a great touch. We especially enjoyed the complimentary afternoon drinks and nibbles. The terrace restaurant had a fantastic view and service. The restaurant is world class. Last year it was voted #1 in Prague When in Prague this is the only place to stay.

The greeting, the room, the staff, the turn down service, the espresso machine, the fabulous breakfast all led to one of our favorite hotel stays. We were tired after two weeks of traveling and the Goldenwell was a perfect match for tired torist needing to be spoiled. A must!

I have stayed at a lot of "world class" hotels and I can not remember being treated as nicely as my experience at The Golden Well. From the moment we arrived on the property we were warmly greeted, provided a brief tour of the key features of the hotel, given a glass of champagne, and finally escorted to our room. The service and attention from all staff members was outstanding. All staff members were warm and friendly in attending to our requests.
Other hotel staffs should visit the Golden Well to see how a truly customer focused hotel is operated.
The location is excellent. It is near the castle with it's own entrance. Just minutes from a tram stop and a 10 minute walk to the Charles Bridge.
Breakfast is a treat as you look over the Old City - the view is magnificent. The food and service at breakfast in a word was - superb.
The restaurant is the best in town. The food and service again is impeccable. The view at night from the terrace memorable.
This was one of our best hotel experiences in a long, long time.

The Goldenwell was a truly remarkable experience. I don't believe we have ever been treated so well. The staff spent a great amount of time showing us the hotel, pointing out that all the art-work is original, and showing us the restaurant, instead of merely telling us where it is. The views are spectacular and the room cozy. Every night, there was a sweet treat awaiting us! I believe we were upgraded because it was our wedding anniversary, we had 3 windows that looked upon the beauty that is Prague. The hand written note wishing us well was a special touch and it meant a great deal to us, along with a grand dessert and wine. The morning breakfast was pleasurable as was the very wonderful staff. I would not stay any place else in Prague other than The Golden Well. It was by far the best hotel experience we've ever had.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the city or gardens. We had both!

This is the best hotel in Prague! Hands down. The Golden Well (U Zlate Studne) aims to please with every aspect and they truly deliver. They are located in Mala Strana nestled up next to the Prague Castle. Here was my experience:

We arrived and were immediately welcomed with warm smiles and an offering of a glass of champagne and some refreshing mint towels for our hands. Our bags were promptly brought up to our room and we were given a tour of the hotel and our room. As we entered into our room classical music was already playing to greet us. Further there was a cheese plate and a bottle of czech wine waiting for us. The room not only had an iPod with 500 songs pre loaded and an iPod music dock for us to use but it also had an iPad for us to use on our stay - complete with many apps.

Breakfast was included in our rate (but as I understand it is not in 2013). Breakfast was incredible with a great selection of meats and cheeses, breads and danishes, home made yogurt, cereal, juices, teas, etc. They also have a selection of hot dishes (french toast, pancakes, eggs multiple ways).

We did not order room service but they do have a limited menu from the fantastic terrace restaurant upstairs: Terasa U Zlate Studne. (see my review of the restaurant - i suggest making a reservation here)

Turn down service includes delivery of a dessert each day to have as an evening snack. This ranged from mini cheesecakes to strudels to other cakes.

They also have a lounge area that is open 24 hours a day and is complete with bottles of red and white wine which you may help yourself too. They also have snacks and treats that range from chocolate molten cake with strawberries to mini finger sandwiches of lox and cucumber.

My girlfriend and I were also really pleased to find that they had a tour guide on call hanging out in the lounge available to provide tips and historical context for some of the great sights to see while in Prague. This helped us immensely as the next day we were touring the Prague Castle. It wad quite nice to sip on some wine while discussing the day we just had and help to plan the next days itinerary.

One night we hadn't made dinner reservations and asked the concierge for recommendations and they sent us to a fantastic restaurant U Modre Kachnicky which is a quaint little spot on the Mala Strana side which specializes in Duck. We coudn't have been more pleased.

All the porters, maids, and concierge staff were extremely helpful, quick and performed their services at the highest possible standards.

The beds were extremely comfortable and came with a pillow menu to choose the pillow which is best for your sleeping preferences. I think they had about 5 or 6 different options.

Lastly - they offer car service to and from the hotel to either the train station or airport. The service is affordable ($20 US dollars) and they have an english speaking driver in a Mercedes E class car. (regardless of whether you take their car service or not you should splurge for the cab since it is a hike up hill to this hotel) I suggest their car service because then you do not have to deal with haggling with some of the taxi drivers outside of the airport or train station. Also the taxi through the hotel is charged to your room.

This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at and they truly provide first class, impeccable service! If you are visiting Prague you MUST stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: I chose the option to pre-select my room. #34. It was fantastic and had gorgeous views of Mala Stran...

The hotel was excelent!! The views and thier rooftop restaurant were great. Everything to look at the city was at walking distance!!! If you are in a wheel chair it is not recommendable as the way to the hotel is narrow and its on a steep hill. But definetly I would return one day!!!

The staff and the surroundings of the Golden well hotel met all our expectations. The room we stayed in was lovely, as was the entire hotel. We eat lunch there each day of our stay because it was such a fabulous place to spend time. Can't recommend it enough.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for. We paid extra to get a good view and was not disappointed.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Charming traditional retreat in 16th-century Emperor's residence, set beneath the walls of Prague Castle. Wander up the cobbled, traffic-free streets to The Golden Well (U Zlate Studne), clinging to the wall in the shadow of Prague Castle, and you will uncover one of the city's best kept secrets. This modest collection of little inter-locking houses was once home to Emperor Rudolf II, and later the astronomer Tycho de Brahe. Sensitive renovation - has created a cosy yet refined hotel. The result is a pleasing balance of mod cons - internet access, satellite TV - and old style elegance. ... more   less
