Stayed there over New Year 08/09 because it was the cheapest place available at that time. It's located on a campus, where students rent out their dorms when on vaca or home for the holidays. The rooms are simple, run-down and moderately clean. The heating works (although you can't regulate the heat) and the communal bathrooms are okay. It's a campus, so don't go there if you mind people screaming, singing or fighting in the hallway. During Xmas season, the mensa is closed, so you'll have to go downtown for breakfast.
The city center and many other sights are within easy reach by means of mass transit (day / night busses). The cable railway is only a couple of hundred meters away and will take you downtown right away every 15 mins until 10pm. After that, you can take one of the many busses going up and down the hill. Transit from airport is also easy by bus (one transfer).
Since I'm not a 24/7 party person, I probably would look for another place once I come back to Prague. I would recommend this place to anyone who just needs a place to rest his head after a good night out with a drink or two too much. If you're an early riser and there for sightseeing / cultural interest, don't go there. It's a party place.
