“Good Budget Hotel”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

I too was very concerned when I read reports .However as a budget hotel I was very satisfied, It was clean and comfy. There were hairdryers to borrow. Tv in room to watch the Olympics. Internet was freein foyer. The lift was working. Yes the rooms were noisy if windows were open. I did suggest that the rooms could be upgraded with a fan and coffee machine. Restaurants close by for breakfast and edvening meals. However the staff were charming and the location was perfect. Tram 22 took us everyehere. I would stay here again and certainly recommend to friends as a good budget hotel.

The pictures look very nice, but the hotel has no AC, if you open windows the mosquitoes come in. The shower was very dirty, we told the front door person, he said someone would clean it and they never did. We ran out of toilet paper, when we asked for more at night time, we were told the cleaning person comes in tomorrow at 10:00 am, you have to wait 'til then. They do have a computer with free internet and the wifi ONLY works in the small reception area. What I found misleading is that they consider themselves a 4 star hotel. I barely rate this 2 1/2 stars.

Dear Valued Traveler,
thank you for posting your comments.
It seems you really had misleading informationa bout Hotel Venezia and I will be very happy if you could contact us directly and tell us where you found this information.
In all the portals and websites that we have control of and whose content is managed by us you will not find the same information: Hotel Venezia is a 3 star budget hotel, no air conditioning in the room and no wi fi. Cleaning service comes earlier that 10 a.m. and clean all rooms, in addition the receptionist always have extra supplies for room, so it must have been a bad coincidence and we really apologize for that.
We are sorry you did not have a positive experience and we invite you to check the other hotels of our chain to find a better solution in a eventual future stay in Prague. We would be happy to show you the quality and the professionality of our our hotel and staff.
Best regards,

Having read some of the reviews on this page before leaving for Prague, it is safe to say that I was a bit apprehensive about staying at this hotel. However, after enjoying a very pleasurable stay I'm not sure what I was worried about!

We arrived 3 hours early for check in but the extremely helpful staff allowed us to enter our room without any waiting around. The room itself was at the back of the hotel so we did not encounter any of the traffic noise complained of by other reviewers. It was clean and fresh with spotless (they looked new) sheets and a cracking en suite. The shower was a god send each day in that it was powerful and always delivered hot water.

The location of the hotel is cracking. Only 5/10 minutes walk to Wenceslas Square and about 20 minutes relaxed walk to the Old Town Square. We walked every where from the hotel and it was fine!

The staff were very helpful when we had a problem. For people complaining about some of them not speaking English, I would recommend actually bothering to learn a few Czech words before you leave home, it is amazing how far a 'hello' or 'thank you' in the local language can get you in terms of friendly customer service!

The only downside to the hotel is that some of it's furnishing does need a bit of updating (air conditioning/ new windows etc). As an old hotel it is in danger of being left behind by rivals in this sense.

For a group of three guys (who were there for a mixture of cultural/ historical experiences and for soaking up the famous night-life) it was a great base and would certainly recommend it. For others who want to spend a bit of time in the hotel, watching TV or something (not sure why when Prague has so much to offer!), then maybe you would prefer something a bit more luxurious?

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the Hotel are very quiet as they are off the main road.

I would rate it as excellent if it was 1 star hotel. I would rate it as average if it was 2 stars hotel. But if it's so dishonest that claims to be 3 stars - I can rate it as very poor only.

Be aware - information about amenities is completely MISLEADING!!! If you book it - know what to expect.
Expedia.com states that this hotel offers:

Airport transportation (surcharge) - WRONG! They can call a taxi for you only
Babysitting or childcare - WRONG! Hotel doesn't offer it
Bar/lounge - there is no bar or restaurant on site at all
Cell phone/mobile rental - there is no such service.
Coffee in lobby - coffee machine ( for surcharge).
Computer rental - one computer in the lobby.
Concierge services - no such service.
Currency exchange - no such service.
Elevator/lift - to 3-rd floor only
Laundry facilities - not on еру site at all.
Microwave in lobby - There is NO microwave for use.
Television in lobby - for a reception clerk only
Free Wi-Fi - there was no wi-fi at all
Daily housekeeping - only to 2 PM and not for every room.
Welcome amenities - not provided at all.
Satellite television service - no even single local channel.
Buffet breakfasts are available for a surcharge and served each morning - breakfast in NOT offered in the hotel at all. You are just offered to buy breakfast at other hotel.

We stayed in the hotel for 6 days - bed sheets were not changed even once! Towels (awful condition) changed in a strange manner. One day I put my used towel on the floor in the morning - by the time I returned to the hotel - my used towel was back on the rack as a new one.

At the time we checked in the room was dirty (dust everywhere, dirt floor) and even I requested cleaning in written - no one cleaned our room for 6 days. Cleaning in the hotel understanding means to empty waste baskets and change towels (sometimes). No dusting, no floor cleaning, nothing.

Permanent problem with hot water. You get it for 30 seconds- then ice cold water and you have to wait for 3-5 minutes to get hot water again. Such a pleasure to stay soapy in the cold bathroom and wait for hot water! I complained about this problem and was told that it's because the hotel is very old and nothing they can do about that.

There is no door between the room and the bathroom, only thin sliding screen.

There is no hair dryer in the room.

There is no iron in the hotel at all!!!!!!!!!! I didn't expect it to be in every room, but at least one per hotel must be present. No way. So, do not take any clothes that require ironing with you.

Elevator. Get you nose ready - smell is really awful. Works very strange. It goes to 3rd floor only, then you have to climb. And to get it work you have to have elevator key (one per room only) and if one person in the room you can't get to your room at all, because stairway is closed and elevator doesn't work without key. You have to ask a receptionist to go with you to the elevator.

Very noisy street. Ask for a room with "garden view", it's quiet.
There is no air conditioner or fan in the room. Very hot and uncomfortable.

What was good?
1) Close to the public transportation
2) Really clean, good quality, brand new bed sheets.
3) Friendly staff.
4) Low price

To the hotel management:

So, why to lie? Just to get so many frustrations and anger??? Be honest, advertise this hotel as it is.

If you don't offer a breakfast in the hotel (what is absolutely strange, because the hotel is advertised as bed and breakfast) - have mini fridges in the room, 1 microwave, 1 toaster and 1 cattle in the lobby (at least!) that people could get some breakfast in the morning. It doesn't cost you too much, but will solve a big problem.

You offer satellite TV - yes, but why do you eliminate all Czech channel - we couldn't check even daily weather? 2 Arabic channels, 6 French, 2 English and ~100 German. That's it. Looks very strange and not patriotic....

When I see that hotel offers "Welcome amenities" I expect to get some soap, shampoo, lotion, shower cup etc. What you provide- just one bottle of liquid soap for every need.

Please, be honest and remove at least one star, give appropriate description. You will not lose clients, because there are a lot of budget travelers. But people have the right to know what to expect.

Dear Traveler,
thank you for sharing your feedback with us.
We sincerely apologize for the misleading information reported on the booking portal you used to make your reservation. We have already required the changes according to the exact services of hotel.
For all future guests or simply readers of this review I feel in duty to list what the Hotel Venezia offers. The hotel do not offer the breakfast service, it has the elevator which works not to the last floor - historical building. We offer ariport transfer with a our limousine service partner on request, or normal taxi according to guests´preference, in the lobby area there is an automatic machine for warm beverages (not free). We offer childcare and babysitting on request and concierge services. There is no TV in the lobby, not microwave for free use, no currency exchange service. Wi-fi is not available, a computer with internet connection is available free of charge for all guests. Housekeeping is on a daily base. Each room has TV with both local and foreign channel. No complimentary toiletries or welcome amenities. Hairdryer is available on request at the front desk. For any assistance the reception is 24/7 at guests´disposal to help you to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
We thank you once more for your comments and we hope to be able to welcome you in the future.

Other than the good location, this hotel was not up to a standard I would have expected at all. The attic room we were put in had no electricity for a while, dark stairway up to the room at night, very poorly lit, room not too clean with the tiniest wardrobe I have ever seen. The staff were friendly but only having the use of one hairdryer for the whole of the hotel was to say the least difficult!!

So, I have booked this hotel from 10 till 11 of December. This hotel has only one plus. It is his location. Other is big fenomenal minus. Dirty hotel. Dirty rooms with dirty carpets. Old windows with small holes. Smells badly. I have written that we would come there around 19:00. The room wasnt prepared at all. Some one clened canalisation before and left all in the bathroom. Old dirty napkins. When we came, bed wasnt prepared. Only some yellow matrasses. Thats all. Reception said they forgot to clean it. We aked reception to change the room. We got some "lux" after. Dirty carpets, better cleaned bathroom and again only matrasses. At night when we came, security were under drugs and couldnt open the main door. So we waited in winter night around 10 minutes. Security was rounding with the keys, but didnt want to open us. When we were finally in the room, we found that some one STOLE sweater, toothbrash and hand cream. NEVER EVER TO THIS HOTEL.

Dear Traveler,
thank you for posting your feedback on Tripadvisor.
All our staff and management are considering the reviews for the improvement of the services and quality of the hotel. Reviews are investigated in order to provide a good explanation and response.
The fact that you stayed in December makes it difficult for us to recognize the case and provide you a suitable full explanation for the issue you raised: the receptionist, who is at disposal of all guests from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., could have helped you out or you could have requested to talk to the Hotel Manager.
We believed, though, it is a strong accusation the one you made about the security man: all our staff is controlled and of course no drugs are allowed in any of our hotel. Professionality and safe for the employees and guests must be at first place, always.
We are sorry you had a negative experience but we take the chance through this reply to assure future guests about the safety, professionality and reputation of this budget hotel, which we hope it could not be undermined by this accusation.
Best regards

This is definitely basic accomodation and, as such, represents reasonable value. Good points: Clean, convenient for Wenceslas Square and transport system. Bad points: 200m walk for breakfast, inadequate storage - not a hanger for trousers in our wardrobe, no drawer storage. There is considerable scope for modernisation here.

Dear Valued Traveler,
thank you for sharing your comments on Tripadvisor and for pointing out the positive and negative aspects you found during your stay in our Hotel Venezia.
We are glad you appreciated our budget hotel and its basic and comfortable solution for travelers looking for accommodation in the very centre for a good value for money.
Regarding the breakfast service, we are sorry if it was uncomfortable for you. It was a solution we arranged when the management decided to eliminate the breakfast service from the Hotel: we would like just to highlight the fact that our main priority was to guarantee to the guests the service they paid for and providing them the breakfast in our 4star sister hotel was the ideal solution.
We hope anyway to have the chance to welcome you back soon in Hotel Venezia.
Warm regards,
