“Return trip slightly disappointing”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

We stayed in the Hotel William in August 2011 and returned at exactly the same time again this year, August 2012. We requested a Twin Room through lowcostholidays.com but arrived to find we had been given a double. We asked Reception (Michelle) to sort this out for us and the best she could offer initially was a mattress to put on the floor in the room which didn't even fit. Fortunately, about 20 minutes later, she called to say a spare double was available for that one night and we could then transfer rooms to a twin the following night for the rest of our four night stay. It was sorted out in the end but was very distressing - this was a trip to get away from the UK after having lost two members of the family in the last few months so it wasn't what I needed to start things off.

The rest of the stay was uneventful: breakfast was as it was last year - very good quality with a big selection of hot and cold options including cheeses, hams, toast, croissants and other rolls, cereals, and of course teas, coffees, oranges and so on.

The rooms - both of them, the double and the twin - were uncomfortably hot because this hotel does not have air-conditioning and the temperatures during our stay were 30c+. I heard another guest complaining at Reception (again, to Michelle) and the response was that they were poor and didn't have aircon.

It didn't seem like any work had been done to update or improve the hotel since our last visit a year ago. The towels were riddled with holes (probably caught in the washing machine?). Beds were clean and comfortable which is the main thing.

All in all I'm giving the Hotel William three stars this time around, instead of 5 - one for each star rating it actually has. Last year I thought it excelled itself, this year it was pretty much a case of getting what we paid for.

I really like this hotel is located just near by mandarin oriental Prague... And it has free wifi with a good connection ! Despite the local people here aren't as friendly as in Amsterdam !!! But Prague is a worth place to go :)

The advantages: Good value for money! Nice service, breakfast included (which is rare nowadays) even with a competitive rate. Good location: not in the middle of the tourist area, in a calmer area but at walking distance to the beautiful Charles Bridge (about 10 minutes walking). Reception desk available around the clock. Parking available at additional cost in a location nearby (not the best as it was not indoors but at least it was an option the hotel has available for the guests and we had no problems about that!) Hotel room was comfortable, clean, exactly what we needed after a long day exploring this great city!

Disadvantages: There was no air conditioning in the room. It was ok for us as it was not very hot outside, but still it would have been nice to have it. It was a little warm in the room anyway, so I imagine in hot days it must make a difference, specially as the street is noisy and so it's not a good option to sleep with the windows open.  Noise can be a little disturbing if you have trouble sleeping. But we had a perfect night sleep the two nights we've spent there!

We recently stayed at Hotel William for four nights. For the price we paid and the close proximity to Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Old Town Square the hotel was fantastic. The rooms were spotlessly clean, however the service wasn't to the level I expected, in fact the man at the reception desk seemed annoyed to help answer our questions and when we asked for new towels he made zero effort to inform housekeeping so we ended up having to bring the towels to him at the desk and wait for him to go get them for us to ensure whe actually received them. If you are a light sleeper the tram noise might bother you so you might want to bring earplugs. I personally barely noticed the noise after the first night and we even had the window open. In fact I thought it was super handy to have the stop right outside the door. The breakfast they provided was absolutley fantastic. From other reviews I've read I cannot understand the complaints about it as there was a lot of fresh fruit, cheese, meats, baked goods for our entire stay. I would definitely recommend Hotel William for the value and delicious breakfast!

The location, the service, the cleanliness, the breakfast - everything was very lovely! I did have one of the smaller rooms - if you are noise-sensitive, you won't be happy in one of these rooms that face the street, because it is right over the streetcar, and since there is no air conditioning, you do need to keep the window open. I, fortunately, wear earplugs, and really had no problem - except that I could not hear the telephone ring when I was asleep! Still, even this room was an excellent value, when I compare it with other hotels I've visited in Prague. I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Request a room not facing the street!!!
