We stayed for three nights in this warm , clean and comfortable hotel. Food in the restaurant very good and great value.Trams stop right outside the door to take you into the centre in 10 mins or right up to the castle.
Reception staff very helpful with reservations and directions.

Great service and nice people. It is not in the middle of the town, but it gives you a good 30 minutes walk in to town. If you do not want to walk, the tram stops in front of your door. We had had a great pleasant stay at this hotel.

A great hotel in a great city, what more could you want?
My wife and me had a very enjoyable stay in this very warm and friendly hotel, the staff were excellent, breakfast was plentiful and the location is just what you need as it is slightly outside the city centre.
If you are staying for more than 3 days purchase a 72 hr tram pass from the reception for 220 Czh Kr, This will give you unlimted travel for 3 days for about £6!! Bargain!! Tram numbers 18 and 24 will take you to the major sights and they are incredibly frequent ( every 10 mins or so ). Once in the city make sure you do all the touristy bits ( it merits your time and camera ),
and get yourself into a warm pub that serves goulash, this you will not regret. Come an evening get into one of the beer halls or Cech pubs ( they are better than the theme pubs ) and enjoy some warm hosptality. I will not tell you where the best one are as that will spoil the fun of finding them!

We stayed for three nights at the hotel union in Nov 06. The hotel is only a short tram ride to the centre. We stayed in a triple room which was large, clean and warm (perfect when its freezing outside!!). The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful, especially when getting directions for the airport for our return flight. We had a meal in the restaurant on our first night, which was ok but its probably better to eat in town. Theres a little convenience store across the street which was open quite late and sold bottles of water and snacks.

We booked through expedia and for the price it exceeded our expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in prague - would definately recommend this hotel!!!

Me and my partner stayed at the Union hotel for our New Year break in December-January 2007. We decidedly wanted to stay somewhere 'off the beaten track', which it is - about a 10 minute tram ride from the centre. It may not be for you if you like to be in the 'hustle and bustle', but if you would like to see the 'real' Prague while being well-connected to visit the centre at any time - it could be perfect! The trams are extremely efficient and even on New Year's Eve run all through the night which meant we never had to worry about taxis.
The breakfast is a buffet with plenty of choice and attentive service. We did not try the restaurant although noticed that it never got particularly busy. Instead we went out to eat in the centre, but a couple of times ventured out around the hotel, and discovered a few interesting bars and restaurants which only the locals seem to know about. It even snowed once and we had a beautiful walk a bit further away from the hotel.
The room we were allocated initially only had a bath and no shower, and we wanted one with a shower so on request were immediately given another room which had a shower and no bath (which we weren't bothered about). The shower screen keptfalling apart though, sometimes as you showered which was frightening the first time but then we just had to laugh about it! The bathroom was basic but clean, so was the room. Importantly for winter time, it was very comfortably warm.
Finally, the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.
I would say for a good value stay 'off the beaten track' it is a great choice!

The Union hotel was our 2nd stop on our tour of eastern europe. I spent 3 nights in this hotel and must say it was the most fun I had at any of the hotels on our trip. There were lots of British and Irish guests at this hotel which made hanging out at the bar a fun experience.

the hotel is a short train ride (stops right by the hotel) to the main shopping/tourist area, but unfortunately there is not much around the hotel itself.

The food was good and the internet rates were reasonable.

Service was good.

The only downside was the neighborhood was pretty empty - not much to do in the immediate area.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in a room that faces the tram line. The noise from the trams did not bother us since we kept the windows closed. But I could imagine the noise waking us up if we had to open the windows.
The hotel was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was okay; better to get there early though since certain things seem to run out if you get there after 9.
We had to take the tram everyday to get into town, which was still pretty convenient. If we walked, it would probably take us at least 30 minutes just to get to the central area.
We tried taking the subway once and found that the map was not at all accurate in showing how far the station was. From the map, it looked like it would be about a 5-10 min walk; it turned out that there were a huge hill and many steps that we had to climb in order to get to the station. So stick with the trams.
Overall, the hotel was a decent base for exploring the city. But if you want to be in the center of things, consider somewhere else.
