Best Western Hotel Kinsky Garden
Ranked #148 of 648 Hotels in Prague
Reviewed December 26, 2012

We spent three nights at the Kinski in mid December (room 108). At €53 per night including breakfast and free wi-fi, we were VERY happy with our stay! We had a pleasant, reasonably large, non-smoking room on the first floor with a comfortable bed (although two separate quilts in typical Euro style). Staff were generally friendly although night staff less so. The location is not in the old town proper (we intentionally chose this to avoid the tourist hordes!) but is within walking distance of Charles Bridge. Alternatively it is a two or three minute walk to the tram stop from the hotel.

Ask at reception regarding free off-site parking located a few hundred metres from hotel. If you have a foreign plated car, don't park it on the street opposite the hotel - we were told by the hotel there is a very high chance of break-in and car theft. Although apparently leaving Czech plated rental cars on the street is generally fine if nothing is visible in car interior.

Dear sir,

Thank you for spending your time with the hotel survey on Tripadvisor.
We appreciate your comments and sharing your experience with other travelers who consider visiting Prague and staying in our hotel.
Your feedback is always very important to us.

Your comments are carefully taken in consideration in order to offer the best service possible and avoid any similar issues or problems in the future. We appreciate all your provided information.

Thank you for sharing your information on the parking as well - we always carefully explain the parking possibilities - either the hotel garage spaces at fee or free of charge school yard parking, both very close to the hotel. It always pays off to park the car there and not to leave it in front of the hotel, just for your own security.

We hope that you consider returning to Prague and staying in our hotel again.
We are looking forward to welcoming you.

With best regards from Prague

We stayed for 3 nights and although it is not 'in town', once you get your bearings it is not more than a few minutes to the town centre using the fabulous tram system. £4 for 24hrs use of the travel system so you can't go wrong.

The hotel was warm and most people were helfpul and courteous.

A special mention to Yana who worked behind the bar amongst other things. She was so friendly and talking to her gave us a great insight into life in the Czech Republic. When I told her of our experience when we were 'ripped' off at a food stall in the Markets, she was more angry and upset than we were.

Our room looked over a courtyard so if you like views and a feeliing of openness remember to request a room overlooking the road or the Kinsky Gardens.

This is within walking distance of the Petrin Hill and the Funicular Railway can be used with your 24 hours bus pass, so no grief there.

A no 22 bus from the bottom of Petrin Hill takes you up to the Goverment Buildings, Cathedral and Changing of the Guard. Great ride and just enjoyable walking around there.

I digress but the hotel is good value, but beware, the bar closes early as do most pubs nearby and then you are stuck with the dreaded mini-bar.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the roads are brighter and you have a view of the gardens. You would need to reques...

This comfortable, warm hotel is easily reached by the excellent Prague public transport system, whether from the airport, or any point within Prague, as it is only 75m metres from a tram halt.
The hotel has been restored with a very high quality (Italian ? ) finish to all the furnishings, and gives an air of comfort and relaxation. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. Never having been to Prague before, we accepted Avios selection of the hotel, and we couldn't have chosen better. Only there for a three day winter break we were always on the move between sights, shops, markets and the hotel, and found it so easy to go back and forward, to drop off purchases and change for the next outing, without wasting travelling time. AND although it was very cold outside the hotel was VERY warm. The mixed Continental / warm breakfast made for a good start to the day, ( and served until 11.00am !!! great for the long lie-in) and indicated a good restaurant - and, though we never had time to eat there, the opening hours were good. When we next return to Prague it will most definitely be to the Kinsky Garden.

Room Tip: Front of the hotel has very pleasant aspect to the park/gardens . Don't be worried by the road a...

We were met at the airport after having arranged a taxi with the hotel. The greeting we had at reception was excellent - warm and friendly. We had a room on the fourth floor at the back of the hotel, not a great view but nice and quiet, and to be honest we were not in Prague to look out of bedroom windows.
Breakfast was better than we expected, having read some previous reviews - there was plenty of choice and everything was kept well stocked. Again the staff in the breakfast room were very pleasant.
As previous reviewers have mentioned the hotel is a short walk from the centre of town, but with a very frequent tram service close by, we saved our legs for walking round the old town and the castle area. Purchasing a three day tourist pass (310Ck) allowed us to travel on trams, buses, underground and the funicular up to Petrin Hill.
It is very difficult to pick out special restaurants, but two that we particularly enjoyed were the Kolkovna Olympia on Vitezna, and U Kroka, just south of the old town. Extremely good value lunch and beer.
A trip round the castle area is highly recommended as is a quick trip round the nearby toy museum (30Cz).
The main reason for such a high rating was the wonderful attitude of all the staff.

We booked the Kinsky Garden through Avios after reading various reviews on-line. The reviews were generally very good and we were not disappointed, in fact we were delighted. We arranged to be met at the airport by the hotel Taxi (600Ck) and within 20 mins of being met we were inside the charming, cosy hotel being booked in by the pleasant reception staff. The hotel decor is traditional Central European but with all mod cons. Our room (216) appeared to be newly equipped but again in traditional style, it was a reasonable size, warm and being at the back it was very quiet. Breakfasts were what you would expect with plenty of choice from the hot and cold buffet selection. Staff were pleasant and accommodating and made our four night stay enjoyable. The location of the hotel we found to be just right, out of the main hustle of the centre but close enough to walk (15/20 mins). There are various tram stops and an underground station within five minutes of the hotel but we never felt the need to use them. Restaurants abound in Prague and within a 15 min walk from the hotel you have a choice of dozens. Walk towards the Centre for more choice but higher prices, walk down just past the Shopping Mall that houses Tesco and Marks and Spencer to the Smichov district centre for good local restaurants at much lower prices. One particularly good one is the Italian 'Corleone', ground floor smoking, atmospheric cellars non-smoking and usually packed every night.
All in all a really good stay in a little gem of a hotel.

The hotel is across the river out of the main tourist district but because the Metro, tram, and bus network is so good (better than most US cities), this was not a negative. It is a few steps away from a main tram trunk that handles many tram destinations. Trams run 24/7. Connects into underground Metro stations. We walked to the Royal Palace via Petrin Park's trails (large steep hill but great views and sites during day) and back to the hotel along Karmelitska/Ujezd streets (easy/safe at night).

We prepaid for a non-smoking room on their 4th floor. Stairwell definitely had smoking smell and room was thick with deordorizer/scent from bed cover (Masking previous guest smoking violations?) Similar scent in the corridor probably from carpet freshener. We had housekeeping remove bedcover and we opened the windows each night we returned from the days activities to let the room air out. We also turned the thermostat off as it was set to very warm (was 4 to 5 degrees Celsius outside in Nov so hotel had heat on). Hotel sits along a well used 2 lane road but we could not hear any noise when we closed the windows on the side that overlooked the road. Like any well populated residential area, parking is "on-street" so you'll find most flat spaces marked for parking. Some graffiti on a wall across the street from the hotel entrance but not easily visible from your room. Does detract from the area's charm somewhat. Some past effort to remove some of this evident but hotel management needs to get this removed immediately. Suggest paying owners of wall to plant wall covering ground cover to dissuade future markings and "dress-up" the utilitarian look of the street. Typical but ugly kid stuff that you'd find in Western cities. Makes area seem less friendly/safe than it really is.

Hotel offered shuttle to airport at 600 Kc on the morning of our departure. We were quoted 300 Kc for the car the previous night by the hotel's front desk. In any case, there are other options that can be made that are considerably cheaper and you should avail yourself of that information.

Hotel has a good hearty westernized breakfast (option paid for in our room rate) w/ croissants, rolls, ham, cheese, fruit, coffee cake, juices, fruit, bacon, eggs, granola, toast to get started in the morning.

Like most hotels in Prague, the building is older. This hotel's facilities are well kept. Bathroom is modern, clean, fixtures are up-to-date, toilet is efficient and robust, shower/tub is fiberglass/acrylic, drains work, floor tile grout clean. Closet includes full length mirror, shelves, multiple hangers (oddly not for trousers...only shirts/blouses).

Room has what looks to be a "Pergo" type laminate imitating wood strips (no carpet) that has seen better days but is likely cleaner than any hotel carpet you'd find in any hotel (yes that includes U.S. 4 and 5 star hotels...I know I use to work in those). TV is 40 inch LCD flatscreen mounted on wall...mostly non-english programs but had BBC and CNN. Utilized in-room safe which was easy to use. Had refrigerated Minibar which we did not use.

Would consider booking this hotel for a future stay but would remind the management that I'd still research their competitors offerings. Also remember Prague's star ratings are "European" and not U.S. They are not the same. Yet, the Best Western Kinsky is a good value, comfortable, good location for the price.

Room Tip: You'll be out most of the day so the view is really only window dressing. If you choose a room...
