Great Hilton and Exec Lounge!

Review of Hilton Prague
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 6, 2019via mobile
Nice new rooms, very nice lounge and food. Diamond treatment was impressive. Special kudos to the Exec Lounge workers, great people! Will be back... Views overlooking river were nice and it’s an easy walk to old town.

The Czech people were under Communist rule for decades; some of them must have never adapted to the change when the Communists were tossed out -- I suspect the management of this hotel misses the good old days.

They still have a Eastern Bloc attitude about service.

The staff at the front desk were cold and indifferent. While the food was good, the wait staff in the restaurants were often arrogant and rude -- it was impossible to get plain tap water at your table unless you were willing to pay for it -- which you didn't know until you got your bill. You also had to beg for ice.

Plus, there's a lot of chiseling going on. When I ordered a CC and ginger ale (a very common drink) they came with a 1/4 inch of CC, a glass of ice, and a small bottle of ginger ale, and then charged me separately for both the CC and the ginger ale.

My wife tried to order wine with dinner. With each choice she made the waiter told her they were out of that -- choose again and see if you can guess what we have, was the attitude.Smarmy and arrogant for no reason.

The housekeeping staff kept that theme going. The first night we discovered we only had one washcloth. The next night we didn't get any washcloths and had to stop a housekeeper for washcloths -- which she merely pointed to on her cart. Some in our travel group never had any washcloths while they were there.

The front desk didn't know if other places in Prague accepted Euros or USD -- actually they almost all do but will weasel you on the conversion. The front desk also didn't know which restaurants and bars in their own hotel were open. We were supposed to meet friends for drinks at their Cloud 9 bar, but the front desk told us it was closed until 9PM that day. The staff at Cloud 9 told us they would be closed for a private party at 9PM, but would be open until then.

Forget about changing currency at the front desk. They'll point you toward an ATM and a currency changing machine in the lobby -- be prepared for about a 10% conversion fee from the changing machine to get Czech currency from Euros or USD. The front desk will then break large Czech bills into smaller notes and coins after that, but only then.

The hotel itself is beautiful; a futuristic vibe. Yet the rooms are antiquated and strange and bathrooms even stranger by American standards. Spacious bath but with the same type of high rim tub (at least 30 inches from the floor) and half glass partition, and equally dangerous, as the ones at the Pullman Eiffel Tower I also reviewed.

As an aside, Old Town Prague is really beautiful and I highly recommend you get a cab to take you there -- this hotel is not near Old Town. But don't be surprised if the people working there have the same take-it-or-leave-it attitude as this hotel.

We arrived from Salzburg in the afternoon after a tiring journey and very happy to receive a quick check-in to a comfortable and well appointed room. The view was good from the room and all amenities in place. My compliments to the team as both food and service were excellent. Overall a memorable stay.

Where should I start ? the hotel is so beautiful and in the center of the city.
Very close to any location and even have a metro center only 5 min of walking in front of the hotel.

I must say I was highly impressed from the breakfast. The food was fresh with a lot of selections. it was defiantly the best breakfast I ever experience in Europe.

The lounge is very big with great and comfortable places to seat and enjoy snacks and drinks.

The service of the front desk is a bit slow which can affect your time if you need to do check out.

Overall, my vacation was amazing and I'm defiantly recommend this hotel.

Room tip: The rooms in the high floor are smaller that the rooms in floor 4-6.

We had a standard room which was more than adequate. We upgraded to have Executive Club privileges without having a room on the executive floor, which was a good choice for us. Having breakfast upstairs along with having a place to sit and enjoy during the day and at happy hour was very pleasant. My only real objection was that there is only one bank of elevators which happened to be absolutely diametrically opposed to our room (it took a at least 3 minutes to get to the elevators) which was not only a pain but also a safety hazard (in my opinion). Also in order to get to the nearest tram line you have to navigate an "alley" street which we did not want to do at night. But the hotel itself was fine.

Room tip: get a room near the elevators

Very poor service at lunch at the hotel with mediocre food. Complaint to GM who offered 30% discount and free cocktails at the Cloud 9 bar. We waited 15 min to get waited on and now over 30 min to get our drinks.
