Perfect location; beautiful older hotel

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 13, 2016
Hotel Cerny Slon is right off the main old town plaza in Prague, adjacent to the grand tower that is featured in most photos of Prague's old town plaza. It's a beautiful older building with more of a house feel than a hotel feel--wood furniture and fixtures, tile bathroom (with giant tub), double windows to keep out the noise. I felt like a guest in someone's house rather than an inmate in yet another vanilla hotel chain. Stay here--you won't be sorry.

Great Hotel just off the Old Town Square. Good welcome. Comfortable room. I think the only slight negative was the breakfast which was actually Ok but just a little lacking. It appeared that the buffet food was put out but once it was gone...........
Only hot option was local sausage cooked in brine, streaky bacon and scrambled eggs which were OK. Coffee was probably the worst we had anywhere in Prague
That said we will return. PS they have just fitted a new lift

Location was central, just off of Old Town square, which was good and bad--lots of late night noise from roving bands of foreign youth.
It was annoying that we were quoted a price in euros, but billed in the local currency at a (very non-competitive) exchange rate of the hotel's choosing. Left enough of a bad taste that I wouldn't stay there again.
Room was nice, not a great value.

The only good a bout this hotel is the great location... The staff will not even try to help you
The building is old and the rooms are very very clean but no air conditioning!!! And the location has a down side, all night long you hear drunk people in the street, even if you close the windows (which makes the room hotter)
Maybe during the winter is suitable
The breakfast is very European breakers, and the granola was not fresh... But remember that nothing is open outside until 10...

The hotel is located less than a minute walk to Old Prague Square. We only stayed here one evening but we occupied a delightful room on the 3rd floor with a Juliet balcony. The room was quite charming, it was large, clean and very comfortable. The room faced the street on two sides and because of the close proximity to Old Prague Square and due to the soccer championships, there was a lot of party noise well into the early morning hours. Obviously, this is no fault of the hotel but the potential for noise is something that some may want to be aware of prior to booking.

Room tip: Rooms facing the street are subject to a lot of noise from party goers until the wee morning hours

We were looking at taking some friends to this restaurant next month as we have been here once before and enjoyed the food and quite location. Sadly on this occasion they let us down. My husband ordered white wine and was given red and I ordered the boneless Duck to find it was fully on the bone. The waiter spoke very little English so did not understand any comments we made.

The food was still very well cooked and was relatively cheap considering how close it is to the Old Town Square.
