Owner description: Prague Zoological Garden is situated near the center of the Czech capital, in a unique rugged landscape on the bank of the Vltava River. It opened in 1931 and during its existence of more than 80 years it has risen to become one of the most prestigious zoos in the world. Today, it is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic, just after Prague Castle. 4,600 animals and 680 species live in Prague Zoo. You can explore 12 pavilions and 150 exhibits over 58 hectares. The kids will love the Bororo Reserve, chairlift, mini-train, observation tower, paddling pool and Children’s Zoo. The pride of the zoo is its Elephant Valley, home to a sizeable herd of Asian elephants. The Giant Salamander House, where you can see the largest amphibians in the world – the critically endangered Chinese Giant Salamanders – is extraordinary as well; and the African House with an adjacent vast meadow inhabited by herds of antelopes and giraffes is worth your attention, too. However, Prague Zoo also has other interesting places: for instance, the Pavilion of Gorillas with the only breeding family of gorillas in the Czech Republic; Chambal, presenting one of the most endangered species of crocodiles in the world – gharials; or the Indonesian Jungle Pavilion, a giant greenhouse presenting a sample of the South Asian rainforest and its inhabitants.

“The best one on the world”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

Really, really nice place to see. One of the best world zoo´s I have ever seen. It is so sad, that each 10 years the floods destroy the whole bottom part and it has to be renewed again and again and again.

“A nice zoo if you have kids or the time for it”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

If you have kids, this place can be fun for 3-4 hours. The Zoo Praha is very large and has a great variety of animals. It is reachable within the city center very easily (Metro C towards Letňany get off at Nádraží Holešovice. From there you take bus no. 112 which is like a zoo shuttle bus). It is not a must see but if you have the time for it you will enjoy the visit.

“Amazing zoo”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

Best place to spend a whole day in,allot of great spacious areas for animals, for some you can even think that will fly or run away...it is so close to natural habitat. The worst thing one can do being there to run trough it,you need time to experience it,to take a rest, and those smoothies i got addicted to them.
The only minus in my eyes is the lack of English explanations, good thing i brought my own tour guide...but in other words it is perfect, was sad to hear about recent flood....i hope all animals are well...
