Owner description: Prague Zoological Garden is situated near the center of the Czech capital, in a unique rugged landscape on the bank of the Vltava River. It opened in 1931 and during its existence of more than 80 years it has risen to become one of the most prestigious zoos in the world. Today, it is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic, just after Prague Castle. 4,600 animals and 680 species live in Prague Zoo. You can explore 12 pavilions and 150 exhibits over 58 hectares. The kids will love the Bororo Reserve, chairlift, mini-train, observation tower, paddling pool and Children’s Zoo. The pride of the zoo is its Elephant Valley, home to a sizeable herd of Asian elephants. The Giant Salamander House, where you can see the largest amphibians in the world – the critically endangered Chinese Giant Salamanders – is extraordinary as well; and the African House with an adjacent vast meadow inhabited by herds of antelopes and giraffes is worth your attention, too. However, Prague Zoo also has other interesting places: for instance, the Pavilion of Gorillas with the only breeding family of gorillas in the Czech Republic; Chambal, presenting one of the most endangered species of crocodiles in the world – gharials; or the Indonesian Jungle Pavilion, a giant greenhouse presenting a sample of the South Asian rainforest and its inhabitants.

We go to the zoo in all the cities we visit. Everybody told us the Praha Zoo is very special, but we never imagined that!
The property is absolutely huge. And they were just building a beautiful large enclosure for the elephants.
Speaking of large enclosures: the eagles' home was marvelous. We have never seen anything as big as that in any of the zoos we went to.
The most impressive part of our visit was staying 10 centimetres away from a beautiful tiger. We had a glass wall between us. But it was a once in a lifetime experience!
Loved it and surely will go back there one day!

We visited the zoo in March, it was extremely cold and couldn't enjoy it. Very big, you should take a map so that you can see all of it without getting lost or seeing 2-3 times the same things. Due to winter time a lot of animals were missing and here were constructions in progress. I guess it will be really amazing in summer time!

I've seen many zoos, can't say that Prague is by far the best, but it is very very good one. The territory is huge, so plan on 4-5 hours there. Definitely should see shy red panda (very rare for the zoos), big white bears, tiger and leopard. Africa territory was partly closed in March but still nice.
If you like animals - definitely must-see. But you'd better eat outside, too many people for just one cafe inside the zoo.

I took my 6 year old, and we loved it. It was freezing because of a freak cold front, but they had hot cocoa and coffee machines to purchase cups at regular intervals. Plus, there were indoor exhibits at regular intervals. The views from this zoo are amazing. They were also building what looked like a huge Indian exhibit while we were there that I'm dying to go back and see. It looked amazing. The variety of animals is great, too. I loved the aviary. Great zoo!

We visited the Zoo Prague, hearing is one of the best in Europe.Unfortunately by the March was extremely cold and we were almost the only visitors. It looks very professional work and located in a suitable location with perfect view of Prague. There were a lot of areas under construction and a lot of animals had been moved temporarily. It should look much better in summertime. Also it would be beneficial if they could provide more information in English.
